llflSKllllAll WALTER SHUBLOM The Bloomfield Wildcats started the season by winning their first four the Morehouse Invitational Tourna- to Benton in a close contest, then started winning by defeating Gray- from Morehouse, they lost to Doni- games, three of which were played at ment. They dropped their fifth game fell to Advance and Puxico, but again ridge and Essex. Then before winning phan by only one point. After that, they played in the Cape Christmas Tournament where they won third place in the consolation bracket. Soon after this, bad luck hit them by Ruble being injured in the first minute of play at Bell City, and the doctor saying that he couldn't play any more this year. After Jennings had time to become acquainted with the plays and defense, the team started clicking again. But it wasn't long before the hand of misfortune struck once more. This time Harris and Smith were left out of the line-up. The team was crippled badly, but the coach, patching things up as best he could, kept the team going, and they finished the season with about a fifty percent record. The three leading scorers were Paul Wilson, Jr., Paul Phelan and Wel- don Harris, with these three boys back next season we can look forward to a big scoring team. The scoring was pretty evenly balanced throughout the season with Harris, Ruble, Wilson, Jennings, and Phelan all having at least one turn serving as high point man. Four Seniors played their last for B. H. S., Raymond Ruble, Dean Soud- ers, Thomas Smith and Gene Davis. They will all be missed next year. Raymond Ruble was headed for the best year of his high school career, and if he hadn't had the misfortune of a severe ankle injury he would have finished in a blaze of glory. The entire team played good, hard, clean basketball throughout the season and received many compliments on their good sportsmanship, re- gardless of whether they won or lost. Coach Shublom named the following boys as the ones who are eligible to receive an award letter for the i949-50 Basketball Season: Paul Wilson, Jr., Paul Phelan, Don Barney, Weldon Harris, Raymond Ruble, Willis Jen- nings, James Hutchison, Bob Patrick, Gene Davis, Thomas Smith, Dean Souders, Bill Alexander and Quincy Coggins, Manager and Mascot. 477 Coach
