To illustrate: After studying soil erosion, the students con- structed a brush and wire obstruction to iill a ditch on one of the home farms. Last fall, after studying' seed corn, the class selected seed corn from the field of one of the best corn ggrowers in the county. In the study of soils, soil maps of the home farms were made. Soils were tested for acidity, the amount of lime necessary to grow alfalfa determined, and the lime applied. This spring after the class had studied pruning, sev- eral orchards were pruned. In connection with his class work, each student is required to keep records on a farm project during the summer. This year there will be tive alfalfa projects, six corn projects, one potato project, and an orchard project. They vary from one to six acres in size. It is advised that the student receive the net protits from his pro- ject. Also, if the work is done as directed, the student receives an extra school credit. Crops and soils were studied this year, and next year the class will take up the study of live-stock. Two of the boys are keeping records on live-stock projects now. Farm shop work is carried on i11 conjunction with the work in agri- culture. The boys, this year, made wagon boxes, self-feeders and single- rrees, repaired furniture, spliced rope, and did other work of that nature. Fox ty New 1 ll

Manual 'Traininq Bloomfield High School now possesses one of the largest and best equipped Manual Training rooms in this part of the State. It consists of one large working room, surrounded by tool and material cabinets and Containing new up-to-date benches, each supplied with a complete set of tools. This room opens into a large staining and varnishing room. Due to lack of funds, no power machinery has as yet been installed, but when it is, Bloomfield can offer one of the best courses possible in the way of Manual Training. 1 This year's course was a great improvement over previous years. It consisted of a twelve weeks' study of drawing and planning before the woodwork course was taken up. This course and the better equipment made it possible for the students to turn out a much higher class of furniture than was possible in previous years. The annual furniture exhibition was held in the gymnasium, where all the different pieces of furniture made during the year were exhibited before the school and the public. lloity Six
