Wei-v-,,m v.Iri ,- fist! tAbove Lefty District 206 teachers gathered together at Bloom High School to listen to the negotiators' report on the tentative new contract and to vote on ratification. iAbovej One board member suggested that teachers might have to wait until Christmas to get what they were asking forp so ,... the teachers celebrated Christmas early in hopes of ending the strike sooner. School got off to a late start during the 1980-81 academic year because of the longest strike by teachers ever held in the history of Bloom School District 206. When the 7-day strike ended: -The teachers were happy because they finally got a contract and a 140!o salary raise. -The School Board members were happy because the 140f0 salary raise only cost them 11010. -The students had mixed emotions because they had to return to school and end their extended summer vacations. The new contract, which was called a work of creative financing was conceived and designed by the attorneys representing the two sides - particularly John Cifelli, representing the teachersg and David Kula, representing the School Board. According to the Teachers' Association President Frima Margolin, prior to the settlement, the teachers of Bloom District 206 were the lowest paid in both Cook and DuPage counties.
