The decade of the l94O's, known as the War Years , not only affected America's working society, but it also affected the students at Bloom. This era brought about much heartache and loss as well as the enjoy today, there may be no tomorrow attitude. Thousands of men died defending America in World War ll and although the students could not fight physically, they battled in other ways through their sup- portive spirit. The traditions of Bloom still lived on within the ever-supportive stu- dents in these tragic times. Even today these ideals still remain. Looking back, we can see that our school has undergone many drastic changes along with a progressing society. These changes always seem for the better as those who have gone before maintain Bloom's pride and spirit for the genera- tions to come. 4 Trojan Emerg

Rock and Roll Students Mr. Steckel Returns After Marine Duty in Korea During the l95O's, Mr. Steckel did one year of duty with the Marines in Korea. The following is an interview with him upon his return to Bloom. Commenting on the situation in Korea, Mr. Steckel said, American teenagers do not realize how lucky they really are. Young Korean teenagers work under extremely adverse conditions, the filth, mud and stench of war. But, even though some of them do not know what they are fighting for, they still have great spirit and a high morale. I had the pleasure and the privilege of working with the English, Turks, Australians, Koreans, and Greeks, he said. All of them have a high morale. At the close of the interview, Mr. Steckel added smiling, Don't forget to tell them that there is nothing to worry about as long as the Marines are there. After expressing his thanks to the many students who wrote to him, the ex-captain disclosed that he soon hopes to have a display of his many souvenirs. Mr. Steckel agrees that Bloom is a better place to work than Korea. . fs wi .li
