The decade of the l94O's, known as the War Years , not only affected America's working society, but it also affected the students at Bloom. This era brought about much heartache and loss as well as the enjoy today, there may be no tomorrow attitude. Thousands of men died defending America in World War ll and although the students could not fight physically, they battled in other ways through their sup- portive spirit. The traditions of Bloom still lived on within the ever-supportive stu- dents in these tragic times. Even today these ideals still remain. Looking back, we can see that our school has undergone many drastic changes along with a progressing society. These changes always seem for the better as those who have gone before maintain Bloom's pride and spirit for the genera- tions to come. 4 Trojan Emerg

in a Poor Time Bloom Ideals The Loyal Bloomite: -Upholds the standards of the school whenever he represents Bloom. -Does not criticize decisions of the coach or officials. -Avoids excessive applause. -Avoids running through the corri- dors. - -Avoids crowding around drinking fountains and bulletin boards. -Avoids whistling and boisterous talk- ing and laughing. -Observes regulations against chew- ing gum. -Remembers the classroom is a work- shop. -Never makes fun of the mistakes of others. Does not prepare for flight before the bell for dismissal. Takes his place at the end of the line and avoids crowding. Uses his dining room manners. -BLOOM STUDENT HANDBOOK. midst the Conflict Many Bloom students gave their lives in defense of our country. The first to lose his life, Lt. Ralph W. Janssen, was killed in the sinking of the U.S.S. Porter during a sea battle in the Solomons area. ln I943 a de- stroyer escort was launched in his name. He graduated from Bloom in l933.
