Senior Class brings rient to Bloom Bloomfs senior class of 1968 presented the comedy about the American occupation of Okinawa after World War II- Teahouse of the August Moon . The great success of the play is attributed to the hard work of every cast and crew member. Mrs. Cleo Fowler, di- rector, and Kathy Fields, student director, deserve spe- cial recognition for their efforts. Sam Pappalardo, as Sakini, Lon Helton, as Captain Fisby, and Maria Pe- trarca, as Lotus Blossom won the hearts of the audiences with their captivating performances. The story takes place on the island of Okinawa at the end of World War II. It doesnit take the American oc- cupation troops very long to discover that the native Okinawans have a mind of their own. The diiferent cul- tures of Okinawa and America clash and the result is hilarious. But as soon as the roar of laughter dies down, the real truths the play portrays are strikingly evident. The memory of a production such as Teahouse,' will long be held by those who participated in it. All the Bloom seniors who shared in the production of Tea- house of the August Moon will always remember the beautiful set designs, the live goat, and those immortal lines, Naka, Naka, suteska desnaln tLeftJ Sakini CS.am Pappalardoj explains to his audience the circum- stances surrounding the small Okinawan village of Tobiki. f QAbove5 After presenting Lotus Blossom Uvlaria Petrarcab as a gift, Sakini is informed by Captain Fisby CLon Heltonb of the customs of the Western World. fBelow5 Kathy Mumford, co-chairman, touches up Maria Petrarca's make up after the first act.
