General Courses- the Choice of Undecided Students As others impatiently await their turn, Mike DeLaurentis joyfully accepts his copy of Giants in the Earth, a full length novel by Ole Ralvaag, from Miss Bertha Lewis, English III instructor. Being able to express his feelings through his work is a Characteristic ability of an artistg here, in Mr. Albert Piarowskfs Art IV class, Alberta Agostini and Sue Col- burn test their artistic ability. Well, you finally made it, high school-your big step. Now you can feel big, but you also have a lot of big thinking to do. What courses are you going to take? Many know for sure, but an equal num- ber is undecided. These are the students that en- rollin the general education classes. Besides taking the required subjects, such as Eng- lish and history, they fill their schedule with other interesting electives. Through these courses, stu- dents can develop their artistic or musical abili- ties, gain experience through practice, or find the field to which they are suited.

As you stroll through the Industrial Education building, you can hear some pretty unusual and weird sounds. The bzzzzz of an electric saw, the rat-tat-tat of a hammer, or the crackle of an electric furnace- these are all familiar sounds to a boy following the Industrial Educa- tion curriculum. These classes either prepare students for future vocations or introduce them to new hobbies. You can learn practically anything from making jewelry to crafts to iixing an auto in auto shop.

Tony Kudra tests the reflexes of Rhodina Cov- ington as the rest of Mr. Lee Sirnonek's Psy- chology class looks on. History can be dull, but Miss Linda Byrd's classes donit think so. Gary White, senior, appears to disagree to the reasons Freddie Jean Moore, junior, is giving for England's taxes, as other delegates, Steve Grant, senior, Cynthia Larson and Tony Angellotti, juniors, wait to voice their opinions. Debates are one of the many ways Miss Byrd keeps her pupils awake. JoAnne Michael and Suzanne Murphy await Mr: Robert Hippensteel's signal to begin their daily orchestra practice. Jim Franklin, junior, displays his knowledge of the tele- scope to his Earth Science classmates as Mr. Robert Nemoyer evaluates his report.
