Members of the board and distinguished guests take turns in spading up the earth to make way for B1oom's new expan- sion. Manning the shovel is Mr. Harry Lange, president of the board. Campaigning was the first step for Bloom's 33,700,000 expansion program, which began in the spring of 1955, After the project was voted on and accepted by Bloom township residents, the bonds were put up for sale. Contracts were then let for the building, plumbing, and electrical jobs. On February 6, 1956, nearly one year after the expansion was started, the first actual construc- tion work began. A field house and art, music, and dramatics wing are to be completed by Sep- tember, 1956. The entire project, including an auditorium, swimming pool, and new cafeteria, will be completed September, 1957. To commemorate this occasion, a ceremony, which began at 9 a.m., was held. The parents of the football players had their night out when they were especially invited to one of Bloom's football games. Bloom students sing a welcome to the Mothers and Dads while stepping to the music of the band playing in the background. Nine prancing baton twirlers dress their line before stepping out onto the floor for another half-time treat. Barbara Malvestuto, new sophomore twirler on the squad, does a solo for the crowd. Whether rain or shine, Bloom's flag twirlers and band carry out their duty faithfully. This duty, just as important as the biggest basketball game of the year, is to perform their skills between and during the halves of the basketball and football games. After watching their performances this year, all agree that Bloom talents are not entirely centered around athletics. 15

The banquet, which was held on Leap Day this year, February 29, tickled everyone's appetite with a delicious plate of roast turkey, cran- berry sauce and dressing. The theme, Girl of My Dreams, was carried through even in the entertainment which centered around MOTHER. Soft, shell pink and silver was car- ried out in the decorations of modern mobiles and silhouettes. After the banquet was over, remarks could be heard to the effect that: A good time was had by all. 17
