ENGLISH IV Gazing on historical landmarks and English structures, Tom O'Rourke, Barbara Devine, and Vince Poerio, English IV students, enjoy a pic- turesque look over the countryside Shakespeare and Chaucer portrayed in their writings. Our regular English courses are supplemented by classes in drama and speech, creative writing and world literature, and journalism. SPEECH With emphatic gestures and vivid expres- sions, Dave Utermark makes an informal talk during second hour Speech class. The students learn that voice, actions, emphasis, and the selec- tion of Words are all important in the delivery of effective discourse. Speech is defined as the expression of thoughts in a clear manner. lt is evident then that good speech is highly important to an indi- vidual. ,, , PLANE GEOMETRY Mr. Andrews, is line DB equal to DA? asks Tom Egar. Sophomore plane geometry students cram their heads with theorems, postulates, and axioms in an attempt to master the skills of the ancient Greeks. These skills are still of great value in many modern occupations. The main objective of geometry is to find the proof of a problem, not by observation or meas- urement alone, but also by logical reasoning.
