en Democracy demands un- seltish consideration tor the rights, happiness, and well- being of others. Learning that emphasizes self-gain, individual advantage, and personal prestige' will not become a constructive social influence. The learning proc- esses must be vitalized by a positive out-reaching altru- ism . . .an other-minded- ness in thought and action during the formative years. Today's youth are the bearers of the nation's heri- tage as never before. They are the conveyors of knowl- edge, the artificers ot ideals, the bulwarks of democracy. It service has become fun- damental in their thinking and doing, they have attain- ed that understanding which is true education. The four years of service and loyalty given to Bloom by its graduates are but stepping-stones to what can be a productive future. May the members ot the Class of 1945 ever strive to uphold and to practice these ideals! , I
