Our student government, the governing body of the college, each year aims to provide a Well -balanced calendar of events, to encourage the practice of good citizenship, and to interest the students in Bloom Community College affairs. q Comprised of a president, a vice-president, and a secretary-treasurer, and the freshman and sophomore class officers, it is responsible for regulatory activities of the college. Members of the government are elected by student vote. Our social events calendar was inaugurated with a record hop. The Halloween Mas- querade Party, square dance, Christmas party, Snow Ball, and Prom were highlights of the l96l-62 school year. We are all indebted to the student government members for the time and effort they put forth in helping make this year's social events successful. 9 6, gf. w 'G af u 2 ffggfi1 ,,,migg:fs, , f W ' f' ,mu g ,498-gym-fr f V fb . - Z1-v:1,lfQ+s ,MQW L ,f U , ,, J ,. ,m,,W,.,,f, Wi. .4 , . ff 4W.g,,..,,,, ,N V . ,,,4y,o,gMz?55,f' ' Q 3522 f 1 ,W f 1 WV. 1 1' f f A zgf X ,je 1 A I 1 J N 1,76 1 X ffffk' ff ff, ff cf ' X , f WV 1 inf, , 54,1 ! f ff, X, 1 5 0 I . Arch -rival Thornton has defeated Bloom for the past two years but the conscientious Vikings sparkled as they put forth their best effort of the season. After a long string of losses the spirit of the team, combined with the enthusiasm of the students, seemed to hit their stride and although the Bulldogs battled hard the Vikings took an early lead and held it through the game . IKI G END SEASQN STRO G Whether we sit in the bleachers or play on the team, nothing is so exciting as a close victory in an athletic contest. We feel deep loyalty to our friends and school, and we will fight long and hard to prove the worth of our side. B1oom's Vikings entered the season as a three year old team striving for victories and recognition. This young team began a schedule competing against great pow- ers in Illinois. Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds, the team displayed tremendous drive and spirit. Besides defeating Thornton, the Vikings set a new high-scoring record by beating Morton 91 -82. And so the ship docks on another year of sailing by the Bloom Vikings . The ship is clear and empty. We've sailed by the games, the gym-jams, the dances, the Snowball, the Prom--but each year the trip is different because of the personal- ity of the crew, which can't be duplicated. We hope that this SPECTRUM Will serve as a complete and treasured map which will be pulled off dusty shelves time and time again to bring back pleasant memories . To the yearbook staff this book will bring back memories of hard Work--pictures to be taken, layouts to be planned, copy to be Written and deadlines to be met. All of these were enjoyable because they were leading to this object of our toil and effort --the 1962 SPECTRUM.
