Run-off to Decide Council Positions Run-off for Student Council vice- president and treasurer was held in the Academic liuilding. The election for Student Council vice-presirlent and treasurer resulted in a run-off. Over C500 students turned out to vote on these two positions. David justiss. freshman from Bellville, and Ricky Nlurray, sophomore from llouston, were on the ballot for vice- president. For the position of treasurer, ltyan Dcvey, freshman from llarlingen, and Vicki Vines, freshman from lirenham, were the candidates. President and secretary for this year were Miguel Morales, sophomore from Puerto Rico, and liillie Curry, sophomore from l.a Grange. Tile reason the president and secre- tary were elected during the 1977-78 academic year was to be fair on the incoming freshmen for equal representa- tion on the executive board in the Student Councilf' said Morales. 'il also believe we have excellent candidates and any of the four individuals will be qualified to fill these positions. The polls were open from 8 a. in. to 4' p. m. 'l'he final vote talley in the elec- tion for each of the four vice-president candidates and the three treasurer positions were not announced by the Student Council. Hegtilar Council meetings were held every other Tuesday in the Student Center during the noon hour. On the agenda at the Tuesday meeting was the discussion of home- coming activities. Sponsor for the Council was Dr. Wilfred Dietrich. His office is located in the Academic Building. E 4 -,PUBL EXAf Blinn Student Council Attended Regional Blinn College Student Council members attended the Regional. II Texas Junior College Student Government Association Meeting, Thursday, in Waco. The meeting was hosted by Texas State Technology Institute. The sessions included parliamentary procedure workshops, presidents' panel and a presentation by Dr. Ken Bird. Dr. Birdis topic pertained to motivating students on college campuses. According to Dr. Bird, Members of the Student Council must impress upon the students the importance of their school. Sixty percent of the students will claim the technical or junior college their school from which they graduatedf' Miguel Morales, president of Blinn College Student Council, called the business session to order. The officers for the 1978-79 school year were elected. They were as follows: Texas State Technology Institute, presidentg Central Texas College, vice presidentg McLennan Community College, secretary-treasurerg and Blinn College, parliamentarian. Blinn College will host the spring meeting of the Texas Junior College Student Government Association Region II. 83
