Accounting, Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry and others are offered. There are also courses offered for students majoring in special fields. Modern Mathematics I and II are pro- vided for Elementary Education majors. Mathematics for Liberal Arts Majors 133 and 134 are courses designed for the stu- dent majoring in fields other than mathe- matics. Herman Schoenemann, Division Chairperson, Mathematics, Business 23

The Division of Applied Arts provides courses for many growing fields. This division has departments in Agricultural Technology, Home Economics, and Industrial Education. The Agricultural Department has courses designed for students who plan to further their education at a senior college in the fields of agricultural technology. These courses serve as foundations to careers in animal husbandry, vocational agriculture teaching, veterinary medicine, agriculture business, and many others. In the Home Economics Department, emphasis is given to the students desiring advance study in this field. Some of the l. Lawrence Hemann, Division Chairperson, Trans- portation Director, Agriculture 22 Di vision of Applied Arts most attractive classrooms on campus are the Home Economics classrooms where courses in food selection and preparation, textiles, basic nutrition and diet therapy, art in everyday living, and other courses are taught. Throughout the Industrial Education Department the courses deal with practical problems found in industrial experiences. In preparing the students for this field, courses in engineering graphics, woodwork, machine shop, and others are taught. At the end of the semester all students are invited to see the cabinet and furniture pieces the woodworking students built. B. C. Division of Humanities The English Department is concerned with helping the students to achieve a degree of proficiency in the process of thinking and in expressing the end product of thought in an effective and acceptable manner of either oral or written communication. Through courses in literature, the Department supplies facts essential to the intelligent reading of selections in litera- ture, points out the characteristics which render each author sipificant in the development of literature and acquaints the student to work for himself by supplying fundamental facts related to the moral, social, political, and intellec- tual development. .Xfter the students successfully com- plete English l3l, they enroll in English l32. called Composition and lihetoric. This course continues the study of the principles and techniques of writing and reading prose. The Department offers a special course, English 133, for the international students who need to establish a profi- ciency level in the English language. Besides the special course for the inter- national students, the Department offers Developmental Reading. This course is to develop speed and comprehension in reading. The students, during their second year of study, may take the Survey of English Literature courses, Technical Writing, andfor Introduction to Litera- ture courses. The studcnt's choice depends upon his major and his choice of senior college or university. Besides the English and literature courses, the journalism major may take the jouranslim courses and the publica- tion courses. Another important required course for many majors is Philosophy 23l. This is an introductory course to thc major area of philosophy. Philosophy 231, is an ethics course. The Department offers two courses in Second-year Spanish. Students must realize the benefits in learning the Spanish language, especially if they're interested in law, medicine, police, com- munication, teachcrs, and many other fields.
