39 Kilgore 27 Blinn Blinn traded big play for big play with the Kilgore College Hangers and gave them their biggest scare in nine consecutive wins this season. With the win, Kilgore tucked the l978 Texas Junior College Football Confer- ence championship safely away beside last year's co-championship. Early in the first quarter, freshman secondary back Renic Baker snared his eighth interception of the year at the l-ilinn goal line and raced 100 yards down the sideline for the Bucs' second touchdown. Two others have returned an interception 1,00 yards: Henderson Countyfs Jim Babbitt in 1967 and Rangeris Nlike Fuller in l970. Blinnis passing game, particularly the receiving of tight end Chris Kilgore, also provided plenty of thrills for a small contin- gent of Buc fans who made the trip from Brenham. Blinn netted 208 yards in the air on eight receptions and scored all three of its offensive touchdowns on passes. Kilgore, a 215-pound sophomore out of California, caught two of the scoring passes, his first and second of the season. llis first was a 35-yarder that bounced oft' the hands of a Hanger defender and Kilgore grabbed it while stepping into the end zone. His second came from 27 yards out with a diving catch after quarterback Greg Clark threaded the pass through the Ranger defense. Blinn's biggest offensive play came from the same guy who made the big defensive play. ' Baker, a l6O-pounder from lllart, turned on his blazing speed to completely hurn the Kilgore secondary and Clark hit him for a 65- ard touchdown mass to move the lfame l 21 into a 6-6 tie before kicker Larry 'frussell gave the lines a T-6 lead. Things really seemed to be going Hlinnis way after the Bucs went ahead 27,26 will l2:22 left in the game on Chris liilgoref 27-yard reception. lilinn held the Rangers to no gain or three plays and took over their punt at tht Blinn 33. Donnie Williams, who led lllinni. rushing with 76 yards, reeled off a ST-yar gainer on the first play to the Kilgore IU. ff-' zgpfwgw' , , . ,Q ,- . 9'9 . . ,,,,,,,,,,... , sq Q .- Zn-- . . . -'-ff .5 -' .
