Blinn and Kilgore moved stride-for- 'ride in the first half, ending it at a 3-3 tie ith the Bucs owning a lead in most statis- cs. But Blinn netted only 12 yards rushing ld 26 yards passing in the second half while ilgore put together an opportune offense nd a sticky defense to put away its eighth raight win, fourth this season. With the help of a very timely penalty, ilgolfe kept intact its record of not allowing touchdown this year. Blinnis field goal was only thc second time a team scored against the Rangers, the first also being a field goal. Down 3-0 in the second quarter, Blinn linebacker Jesse Williams got tl1e Bucs, scoring drive started when he intercepted a Kilgore pass at the Blinn 17-yard line and returned it to the lt was the first interception suffered by Kilgore this season and Blinn added to quarterback Ricky Hardin's misery when defensive back Paul Carlin intercepted v X. Kilgoreis final score came after Roger Adams recovered one of Blinn's six fumbles, the only one the Bucs lost, at the Ranger 27- yard line. Hardin passed to Brian McFarlin on a third-and-nine for nine yards and a first down at the 16 to keep the drive alive. 10 Tyler 7 Blinn Any team hates losing, but it's frustrating when every loss is so close. Thatls the way it has been for the Blinn College Buccaneers and thatls the way it was Thursday night when they dropped a 10-7 decision to the Tyler Apaches in Blinn's home opener. It was the fifth time in the last six losses, stretching back through last season, that the Bucs have fallen by four points or less. The only other loss was by nine points and a tie was in the middle of it all. Blinn had a 7-3 halftime lead on the Apaches as the two sloshed about a muddled Spencer Athletic Field. Rain, after falling all afternoon, was almost constant through the first half. But Tyler, on its last real possession of the game, drove 53 yards and scored with 4:32 left in the final quarter to take the win and leave Brenham with a perfect 3-0 record. Blinn is now 1-2 in Texas Junior College Football Conference play. Next week, Blinn hosts Kilgore's Rangers at 7:30 Thursday. Tyler will host Navarro on Saturday. Donnie Williams, a sophomore who has been increasingly pleasing to the Bucs, got his first starting chance against the Apaches and responded with 60 yards rushing in the first half, including a 23-yard score. But a hip pointer kept him from running but once the second half as he joined the list of injured Bue running backs, including the regular tailback, Quincy Whittington. uDonnie was so stiff the second half, he could hardly move, Blinn Coach Ben Boehnke said. 0 Wharton 1 0 Blmn After a scoreless first half, Donnie Williams carried an option pitch 64 yards on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter for a touchdown and all the points the Blinn Buccaneers needed as they ended up with a 10-0 win over the Wharton County Pioneers here Saturday. The game was the 10th Anniversary Shrine Club benefit game to aid the Shriner's Crippled Childrcn's Hospital and Burns Institute and the name of the game was defense. The two teams managed only 335 yards between them, 31.5 of that on the ground. Larry Trussell added a 28-yard field goal later in the third quarter to round out all the game's scoring in that one period. Only three times did the Bucs manage to get as many as two back-to-back first downs. Only once did the Pioneers do that well, when they put together a 47-yard drive that got four oil' their eight first downs and ended in a 46-yard field goal attempt that fell short. Blinnas field goal effort really began when Trussell punted from the Wharton 38 and the ball was downed by Bobby Carroll at the Wharton two-yard line. On Blinn's iirst play, the Bucs were flagged for clipping and found themselves .sqft .leg 1 flmllflllllllllflt Edgy. .gpg -, ,I' jx. t . '-. ..-.-' 'T -- facing a first-and-goal from the 20. Three plays later they had worked to the 10 and Trussell kicked his field goal, with 5:18 left in the third quarter. Williams, primarily on the strength of his touchdown run, was voted the offensive player of the game. He finished the night with 97 yards on only 12 carries. He carried only once more after the touchdown and sat out the rest of the game, slightly nauseated, according to Coach Ben Boehnke. . .. .. 9-sa:-Qe-2-2-Q-:fm-:-f-:eff-fi:aa?-as-are -1-fm-f-Tssss.-.--f.-, -.4 -U ,,,,-,,,,--- ...-.. ....H.. :..-11.:a4442e.-sfe11f- - -.- , .1 +. -, 1.1411-1 If R-1 .
