Division of Natural Science Science has played a very instrumental role in our modern technological society, and in the future science will probably play an even greater role. lt is therefore, imper- ative that everyone has a basic knowledge of science as well as an understanding of the scientific method. Blinn College offers a variety of courses in the scientific field that are designed to better equip our students for the future. General courses in biology and chemistry are available for liberal arts majors who will not need additional science courses. For the students who require a more extensive back- ground in scientific training, basic courses in biology, chemistry, and physics are offered. Division of Library This year the library continued to grow in facilities, materials, and most importantly, use. The Freshmen were introduced to the library early in the year, when all Freshman English classes were given lectures and tours by Mr. Bennett and Ms. Flynn. These tours were helpful in familiarizing the students with the sources and assistance available in the library. The listening center installed last year was used heavily as faculty members assigned tapes, records, and filmstrips to their classes. Over 200 casette tapes were added to the collection, along with several filmstrip-tape sets which could be viewed on portable viewers plugged in to the listening center. Copies of the tapes were made on the library's high-speed copier and checked out to students who were unable to spend time in the library. To keep up with its growing collection of books and bound periodicals, the library added 1825 feet of shelving and two new index tables. This addition greatly relieved the crowding on the shelves, although it disrupted the library's quiet atmosphere for a time. Perhaps the most obvious change in the library was the new security system. This array of turnstyles and ropes across the entrance was designed to prevent books and other materials from leaving the library without being checked out properly. Although it added to the work of the library staff, it made it much easier for students to find the materials they needed. 32 rv., , , ' Eli , ' vx .
