World, American, and Texas history courses enable students to learn about and understand the decisions made in the past. They study these decisions to find the success or failure of them. lt is true that history repeats itself. This is why in the study of this state's history, this nation's history, and the history of the world we must spend diligent time in trying to under- stand the past so that the future may be better built. Psychology deals with the study of human behavior. ln this discipline, the stu- dents are shown very basic methods of analysis into one's personality. Decisions in regard to a person's being, his world, and his society can have a great bearing on that person's future. Wrong decisions can totally affect a person's life whereas a correct decision can turn a person's life around and create a new person. Sociology presents the student with the ability to reach decisions about the society in which he lives. Not only is the student instructed with facts as to why society is like it is, but his thinking is geared to how he can make right decisions to change his society. Whether one's course of study is econ- omics or sociology, psychology or history, no matter the discipline, the field of social studies is geared to the training of one's mind. l Robert Giles, History Noel Kent Horton, Sociology Harold Shilk, History, Geography Steve Gillmore, History lohnell L. McGregor, Division Chairperson, Eco- nomics 28 effects of the area, decided the fate of an entire phase of civilization.
