1 3, Wharton 23 Blinn The game closed the season for both teams as Blinn retired with a Texas junior College Football Conference record of 5-4-1 to finish third. Wharton began the game by driving to the Blinn 31 and missing a 48-yard field goal attempt. Blinn responded with a 63-yard drive to the Pioneer 17, from where Allen Davis booted a 43-yard Held goal which barely cleared the uprights. With 7:01 left in the first quarter, Blinn took a 3-0 lead. A couple of possessions later, Wharton tried another field goal after failing to pick up a first down following the first of three interceptions they grabbed during the night. Kicker Raymond Butler got the kick off from the 33, but Buc jim jiral came storm- ing through to block the effort, The Bucs were forced to turn it over on downs at the 17 and stopped Wharton at the 44. Blinn responded with its third scoring drive. Erb took the kickoff at the six and returned it to the 42. Reed added a 10-yard run to move across midfield and on third- and-8 from the 45, Thompson went to Erb again. Again double-covered, Erb got the ball through the outstretched arms of Pioneer Mike joseph but was grabbed by the other defender and pulled down at the three. A three carries, King scored from the one ' Davis' kick left a 17-7 advantage. On fourth-and-nine from their own Grantham passed to Alvis Padgett in the zone and only a perfect pass and a c centrated catching effort pulled the bal on the sideline for the score. Blinn Rolls Over JBC, 55-48 A solid defensive effort was enough to offset the cold shooting of Blinn College's Buccaneers Tuesday night as the Bucs took a 55-48 win over visiting jacksonville Baptist College. The shooting was cold, according to coach Ernie Stewart, except for that of Anthony Brown. Brown, a 6-3 sophomore from Silsbee, rolled in 31 of Blinn's 55 points while hit- ting 14 of 23 shots from the floor K61 per centj and three of four free throws. And the defense was solid. They played a great defensive game, Stewart said-. Maybe jacksonville didn't shoot as well, but we were at them all night. johnny Campbell had a great game and Oliver Lewis looked good, getting several steals. john Williams didn't score but also did a great job defensively. Offensively, he said the Bucs did a good job of controlling the ball and getting it to Brown. Oliver Lewis was the only other Buc in double figures, scoring 10 points.
