With a defiant defense and 20 first half ints, the Blinn Buccaneers upset the top- nked Navarro Bulldogs 26 to 15. While Blinn's defense bent but never oke, the offense under Thompson's guid- g hands did a strong job putting 20 points the books in the first half. Playing the game without leading rusher Leroy the offense moved the ball on the legs Thompson and running backs Quincy and Freddie Reed. The Blinn Buccaneers started the second quarter with their time consuming drive of the game as the Bucs rammed their second touchdown of the game into the endzone with a fine infantry attack by all three of the Buc's backs. The march concluded with Freddie Reed, a freshman from Magnolia busting in from the three. Again Davis toed the PAT. The Bulldogs were not going to be heard from in the first half as the Dogs put on a BLINN l 15 Navarro 26 Blinn march of their own. Navarro however could not muster much offense against the fired up Bucs as the Bucs halted every drive or forced a fumble throughout the third quarter and the early part of the final period. As the time ticked away in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs started to move the ball. But moving the ball all the way from their own one yard line deep into Blinn real estate, the scrappy Bucs held on a fourth and two. The defenders spoiled the next two drives in much the same manner as time continued to lapse. Late in the game the Dogs started to move the ball once again, and seemed to have the offensive machine going goalward. The Bulldogs were deep into Blinn territory until Kirk Summers pulled the play of the game. Summers stepped into path of a Westmoreland pass and raced 78 yards for a touchdown. After being smothered by his team- mates, Summers could only slap a few hands and revel in the glory of a 26 to 15 victory. BLINN 1 Q 'v' J ' - 3 l' Q . A 'T trrss if . Kilgore's cause was aided by repeated ides penalties against the Bucs, that time r time got the Rangers out of trouble. Blinn had some individual performances crowd cheer. Big Ben Barley picked a mid-air fumble and rumbled two yards own that were to make the Home- for the first Blinn score. Mitch Renfro also showed his stuff as he pulled in a 30 yard Larry Thompson pass with a tremendous diving catch in the fourth quarter. Despite the powerful first half showing by the Rangers, the Bucs were down by only one TD with the score 21 -14, thanks to Barley and a Leroy King TD. The second half saw Blinn put the first points on the board with a five yard touch- down scamper by King. Unfortunately for BLINN g 5 1 1 'N BLINN if 29 Kilgore 26 Blinn the Bucs the snap from center was mis handled and the score was left in Kilgore's favor 21 to 20. Early in the last quarter Renfro made his great catch, and the Bucs went on top 26 to 21. The try for two points was stopped as the Ranger defense stopped King inches from the goal. Renfro then pulled some more heroics as he returned the kickoff to near midfield. From here he hauled in a Thompson aerial for a first down. The march and the game however came to an end as Larry Thompson was sacked on third and fourth down to relinquish the ball to Kilgore. A bright spot for the Bucs was Leroy King's 130 yards which put him for the season at 970 yards for the year with one game to play.
