L4-1-.a f li -4 Blinn Places Three on Conference List Blinn College placed three players among the cream of the crop from this year's edition of The Texas junior College Football Conference All- Conference selections. Included was half the offensive back- field, led by running back Leroy King, who was named the Offensive Player of the Year, along with quarterback Larry Thompson. jim jiral, a freshman defensive end, was the only Buccaneer listed on the defensive team. Thompson, a 6-1, 185-pound sopho- more out of Austin West Lake, passed for 1,084 yards while completing 53 of 150 passes. He also rushed for four touch- downs. King, one of six repreaters on the list and a reigning All-American, is a 6-2, 210-pounder out of Weimar High School. He rushed for 1,061 yards during the season, set a season scoring record of 112 points and matched a career record of 154 points. 218 Thompson and King teamed for the only other new record in the conference on a 93-yard screen pass earlier in the season. jiral, a first-year man out of Spring Branch, weighs in at 205 pounds and stands 6-1. Navarro junior College, conference co-champions bound for the Texas juCo Bowl Dec. 3 in Garland led the team with 10 honorees, five offensive and five defensive. Kilgore College, which tied Navarro's 8-2 record, held the second largest number with seven, including five defensive entries. The list included 12 names on the offensive team and 15 defensive players. ironically, Wharton County junior College followed in the number of representatives. The Pioneers, who finished the season with a 1-8-1 record, placed five players on the two units. joining King and Thompson in the offensive backfield are Wharton's Ricky Hicks and Navarro's Kelvin Russell. Hicks, a flashy freshman out of Tarpon Springs, Fla. that rushed for 1341 yards, is rumored to be headed for the University of Texas, cutting his junior college career a year short. Russell picked up 1,090 yards and will be heavily de- pended upon when the Bulldogs host Northeastern Oklahoma A8tM in the juCo Bowl. Navarro coach Harold Hern and Kilgore coach jim Miller, after their teams shared the conference crown, were named co-winners of the Coach of the Year award. ln the preseason poll of coaches, Navarro was picked to finish last in the loop this year, one place behind Kilgore.

The Blinn Buccaneers made a valiant me back in the fourth quarter, but arro pulled a come back of their own, defeated the Bucs 22-19, Thursday night pencer Field. Navarro received the kickoff in the ning minutes of the game and were Iled by the Buc defense. They punted to Blinn 45 where Blinn immediately rted the first drive of 1977. loe Smitherman, was forced to punt. Navarro took over with the ball and were stalled by the Buccaneer defense. Navarro punted to the Blinn 25 yard line. On the first play of the drive a Watts fumble put the Bulldogs only 25 yards from paydirt. Brenhamites were down 7-0. ln the second quarter the game became an offensive stalemate. Drives by Navarro were repeatedly stalled by fumbles. Consecutive fumbles were recovered by freshman Norman Kiecke 22 Navarro 19 Blinn and sophomore Ray Madden. After receiving the opening kickoff of the second half Blinn started to get back into the game. On second down Leroy King burst 39 yards into Navarro territory. His ramble went to waste as the drive stalled and Smitherman had to punt. The rest of the third quarter was knock down drag out defensive struggle. Sophomore Kirk Collins returned for a 78 yard touchdown with a spectacular run. Davis's split the uprights and the Bucs were on top 19-15. After receiving the kickoff Navarro was led back by an eight yard TD by Russell. With less than a minute left the Blinn desperation attempt was halted and Navarro won. Individual stats were for Blinn in rushing with Leroy King collecting 90 yards in twenty carries. In kicking joe Smitherman had eight punts for a 37 yard average.
