Phi Theta Kappa Beta Alpha V i I . w E- Cynthia Flukinger Ten Students Were Initiated Ten students were initiated into the Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor fraternity, in a noon ceremony held on September 28 in the Student Center. Success comes only as a result of sacrifice, said Dr. James H. Atkinson, President of the college. The only way you are going to be remembered is your contribution to your fellow man. Dr. Atkinson spoke to the club members and guests. For the initiation ceremony, each of the new members lit their candle from the Candle of Knowledge , and repeated the Phi Theta Kappa pledge. Each one was then given a membership card by Dr. James Atkinson. 66

Val Gene Kieke, president of Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, served as the Master of Ceremonies. Ray Tieman, vice- president of public information, gave the invocation. Robert Giles, Val Kieke, Flay Tiemann Carol Von Minden The other officers of the chapter for the upcoming year are Carol Von Minden, vice- president, Linda Burt, secretary: Becki Blaha, treasurer: Anne Darr, reporter: Becky Munsch, historian: and Norris Wied, student council representative. 67
