14 Tyler 36 Blinn The tenth ranked Apaches never really got their feet on the ground in the first half as the Bucs struck for three lightening quick touchdowns in the space of four minutes in the first quarter. The second half was just a case of too little, too late as the Apaches mounted several drives deep into Buc Territory. But the ball seemed to have eyes only for the blue and white clad Bucs. The defense took quick charge in the first half. Every time the Tyler offense got rolling, you guessed it, Floyd Hogan was there to cool them off with another of his 4 intercepts. Tired of being left out, Darnell Meyers and Donnie Reddic joined the act swiping one pass a piece. lt was left to the Buc offense to close the scoring for the night. Late in the fourth quarter, a 22 yard punt return by Hogan, set the Bucs up deep in enemy territory. Two plays later Parker had his second touchdown pass of the night, and the Bucs had a hard fought 36-14 victory salted away. -MLA 1- . , Ms.. ffl' .'.'w' if H' Steve lvleyer, Defensive End Charles Jankowiak, Defensive Tackle Wharton 2 7 Blinn 3 The Blinn Buccaneers won over the Wharton County Pioneers at the Fort Bend County Shrine Club Benefit Foot- ball Game. The first quarter of the game, the Bucs were leading with the score 10-0. Fumbles started during the third period Pioneer drives which finally stalled at the 9 and 5 yards, but a third fumble on the Buccaneer four yard line set up Wharton's only touchdown of the night on a two yard drive by Ernest Knox, their 220 pound star tailback. The victory was salted away when Beaird burst 17 yards through a massive hole and scored standing up to make the final score 27-3 and send the Buc's season record to 2-0. Navarro 9 Blinn 1 0 With about 27 seconds left in the game and three Navarro pass defenders hanging on him, Floyd Hogan made a brilliant catch at the one yard line and fell into the end zone for the tying touchdown. Donnie Bockhorn, with mechanical ease, then kicked the winning PAT. These were the type of tension packed plays that occurred within the final two minutes of the Navarro game, which the Bucs finally pulled through 10-9. The low score depicted a tough defen- sive battle between the two squads that was almost dead even until the opportunist Bucs finally got their offense rolling. The only scoring, in addition to the winning touchdown, were four field goals, three of which were Navarro's. Bockhorn was responsible for the only score other than the touchdown when he kicked a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter. Billy Mills, Quarter Back 179
