The study of history, economics, geography, government, sociology, and psychology aids in the understanding of man. Also the field of sociology and psychology affords an opportunity for meeting the needs of students through individualized learning and evaluation. Special reading's permit oral sharing of current information from periodicals, collected readings and newspapers which result in self direction and student re- sponsibility for his intellectual growth and development. Classroom management and facilities often take on a new look as groups form circles: as the instructor becomes the facilitator: as the instructor converses with an individual: or as a student becomes the leader at the lectern. In the inception of a news story, the first requirement of a reporter is that he develops his nose for news and spots a story or discovers it on his visits before each issue of the newspaper. After interviewing news sources, he writes and types the story in the budding. This is done during his free time or during his lab periods that are assigned in connection with his journalism class. After the story is completed, the reader enters the picture when he edits copy for errors made by the reporter writes headlines. The size of type for headlines is done by estimating the al mate length of the story. After the copy is error free, the begins his jigsaw puzzle task of mal- the pages so that each article and pic' the page. This is often a trial and error the pages fit perfectly. She is like a mother because she took us to the doctor when we were ill and checked each room every night to say goodnight and make sure we were well. Because she cares, she allowed the Student Officers in the dorm to preside at all dorm meetings and participating girls voted on all group projects and activities. The '72-'73 school year in KA Hall started off with a 'get acquainted' party given by the Sopho- more Girls. During the football season, the girls made posters for the football games, letting the players know that we 112 were 100'Ms behind them. Everyone helped decorate the dorm for Home- coming. Mrs. Bolster received a mum from all of the girls before the big game. Two weeks before Christmas vaca- tion, we picked 'snowflakes.' Each girl picked a name from a hat and left little gifts with notes all over the dorm for her 'snowflake' to find. At the annual Christ- mas party she placed a gift for her 'snowflake' under the dorm Christmas tree. For every game the girls made some type ol' a sign or poster to put on each playerls door. l or example, lor the Tyler game we made stars and put on their doorsg the stars included their name and number and uBeazley says Go Bucs. For another game we made KNO. Vs out ol' blue construction paper and it had their names and numbers. Another week two large signs were placed on the doors of llollemau l'lall Ntlive ,em Hellw and the other said Home of the No. I lines . After the Tyler game, the girls who had stayed that week-end up here, made a huge No. l and took it to their dorm so they would see it when they came home on the bus from Tyler. The No. I. had the players names and numbers on it and 'QBUCSM and at the bottom it said Spirit of Beazleyw. We also made a permanent sign from a sheet to put on their dorm that said Home of the No. l, Team . For one of the Pep Rallyls, Beazley Hall made a cake in the shape of a l. and presented it to them. It said Eat 'em Up Bucsn. The newest edition to the men's dorms is under the capable supervision of Mrs. Maude Smith, who strives to make Solons Hall as much like home as pos- sible. She does this by always being around to lend a helping hand to a 104 member family. She receives aid from the dorm officers and staff. They are: Presi- dent, Bill Collier: Vice President, Donald Anderson: Sec.-Tres., Terry Parker: Office Secretary, Joe M. Pierce: Sgt. at Arms, Ray Myers: and dorm worker, Cody Barron. The dorm is kept in tip-top condition by Mrs. Annie Mae Turner. Solons Hall received the honor of being the best decorated men's dorm for homecoming, and won an outstanding sword. The second half was just a case of too little, too late as the Apaches mounted several drives deep into Buc Territory. But the ball seemed to have eyes only for the blue and white clad Bucs. The defense took quick charge in the first half. Every time the Tyler offense got rolling, you guessed it, Floyd Hogan was there to cool them off with another of his 4 intercepts. Tired of being left out, Darnell Meyers and Donnie Reddic joined the act swiping one pass a piece. lt was left to the Buc offense to close the scoring for the night. Late in the fourth quarter, a 22 yard punt return by Hogan, set the Bucs up deep in enemy territory. Two plays later Parker had his second touchdown pass of the night, and the Bucs had a hard fought 36-14 victory salted away. -MLA 1- . , Ms.. Donnie Bockhorn, with mechanical ease, then kicked the winning PAT. These were the type of tension packed plays that occurred within the final two minutes of the Navarro game, which the Bucs finally pulled through 10-9. The low score depicted a tough defen- sive battle between the two squads that was almost dead even until the opportunist Bucs finally got their offense rolling. The only scoring, in addition to the winning touchdown, were four field goals, three of which were Navarro's. Bockhorn was responsible for the only score other than the touchdown when he kicked a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter. Billy Mills, Quarter Back 179 Henderson 1 2 Blinn 13 With the hard nose running of Ronnie Nlelancon, and a stingy defense, the Bucs captured the undisputed lead in the con- ference, beating the Henderson County Cardinals, 13-12. The game which highlighted two tough defenses had sporadic scoring throughout the game. ln the first quarter the Bucs drew first blood on a 44 yard field goal by Donnie Bockhorn. But the Cardinals were not to be denied and came back in the second quarter with a 25-yard field goal after they were unable to puncture the Buc defense. Then a charge late in the second quarter occurred. After slowly grinding away at the Buc defense, the Cardinals finally punctured it on a 39-yard dash by fullback Larry Sims. After the PAT, the Bucs found themselves behind, 10-3. After the Cardinal kickoff, Steve Gil- more set up the night's top offensive play by Michael Glasscock, Full Back 180 throwing a nine yard pass to David Henson to the 29 yard line. On 'the next play, Henson, from his split position, ran a deep pattern and made a brilliant catch between two defenders and raced to paydirt 72 yards away tying the score 10-10. After a scoreless third quarter, the Bucs went to work again. Bockhorn kicked his second field goal from 25 yards out and the Bucs led 13-10. Floyd Hogan, making himself re- cognized, intercepted a pass at the Blinn 6 on the next Cardinal possession. After the Buc offense sputtered and failed to move the ball, Markley Mills dropped back to punt. But to the dismay of the fans he began to run! Then he fell into his own end zone giving the Cardinals a two point safety. The strategy of this play was that the Bucs now had a free kick. The kick was not returned, and the game ended with another adrenalin flowing victory. The Bucs will face the Kilgore Rangers next Saturday, Oct. 21. Although losing two close games,. the Rangers will still be packing a potent offense and a strong defense that the Bucs must contain in order to win. Don Bockhorn, Line Back 1 'Q 5 3 Q 4 Q . . . . For 58 minutes last Thursday night, it looked as if the Bucs had finally come up empty handed. A Steve Bockhorn field goal of 52 yards narrowed the margin to 7-3 at 11:41 to go in the half and set the stage for Hines. The game quickly developed into a defensive struggle as neither team could generate much in the way of offense. The Bucs moved well between the thirties piling up most of their 11 first downs and 131 yards rushing in this area. Meanwhile, the defense proved stingy as usual limiting the Pioneers to 4 first downs and only 73 yards on the ground. And so it was left to Van Hines with 2:20 showing on the clock to weave his magic and bail the Bucs out. And while it may not have been the Bucs quickest score of the year, it was certainly a vital one as the improbable heroes of 1972 continued their winning ways. The five members are sophomores Mark Angel and Bryan Huskey and freshman Homero Correa, Daniel Boone, and Lawson Frazier, Jr. Miss Janis Sneed, P.E. instructor, said, They will be mascots on a trial basis to see if it works. Their purpose will be to create enthusiasm and pep at ball games and pep rallies. Some of them have tumbling backgrounds, but now they are learning more. Angel said, We are sort like amateur stunt men. The girls will flip us. Correa learned gymnastics with a group of boys in his hometown of Tor- reon, Mexico. He said, we learned to do them for parades and festivals. We never took any classes. We just learned alone. He also said that working with the girls was quite a bit different than working with his friends in Torreon. Frazier received some publicity for gymnastics when he was in the seventh grade. He said, lNhen I came to Blinn, l asked Miss Sneed if I could use her equipment. She came up with this idea about the mascot and asked me if l wanted to try out. Cheerleader Donna Seifert said, They are real good. I hope they will be able to promote more spirit.
