Mathematics Mathematics, Todayis Great Challenge Mathematics is the language of science. Because of the great em- phasis on space, the department has a balanced program of courses on the level of the first two years of a bachelorts degree in mathematics or engineering as prescribed in senior college catalogues. The aims of the department are to promote the basic training of mathematical terms, definitions, and needed formulas; to stimulate a cultural appreciation of the importance of the relationships between .71 mathematics and the progress of Civilization; and to develop an in- dependent approach to learn- ing and reas oning. V Agriculture Lawrence Hemann Vocational Training Now, Profits Later The Agriculture Department offers courses to meet the degree requirements of college and uni- versity to which stud ents plan to transfer. The courses are designed to serve two objectives. The first ob- jective is to meet the needs of students of agriculture who plan to attend senior college and to major in some phase of agriculture. The second objective is to see that the students have attained skills and abilities that are essential to meet local needs in dairy, beef cattle, and crop farming areas. The principal aim of the Agriculture Department is to serve the needs of the people of Washington County and surrounding areas with service and agriculture instructions. The department offers courses in Agronomy, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Husbandry, Poultry Pro- duction, Horticulture, Agriculture Economics, Ento- mology, and Agriculture Engineering. The courses are foundations to careers in animal husbandry, vocational agriculture teaching, veteri- nary medicine, agriculture business, and many others in the broad field of agriculture. Seth D.
