Mathematics Mathematics, Todayis Great Challenge Mathematics is the language of science. Because of the great em- phasis on space, the department has a balanced program of courses on the level of the first two years of a bachelorts degree in mathematics or engineering as prescribed in senior college catalogues. The aims of the department are to promote the basic training of mathematical terms, definitions, and needed formulas; to stimulate a cultural appreciation of the importance of the relationships between .71 mathematics and the progress of Civilization; and to develop an in- dependent approach to learn- ing and reas oning.
