A Win at Home The Bucs downed Arlington State in their first game in the newly remodeled Thomas Spencer Stadium. Blinn got on the scoreboard in the first quarter when Ricky Elliott recovered a fumble in the end zone. In the third period, standout James Copeland scrambled to pay dirt for Arlington. Mike Hilliard came back with a 37 yard pass to Ramiro Perez for the go ahead score. However the Bucs were not satisfied. With 11 seconds remaining, Louis Ryter booted a 22 yard field goal and the Bucs had their first victory of the season; 16 to 6 at the expense of Arlington State. A Slow Start The Bucs dropped the season opener to Wharton 20 to 7. The season was young as were many of the starters. It was late in the third quarter before Blinn started moving, and Whar- ton had already begun to build up a bed of steam. Mike Hilliard passed to Wayne Williams to put Blinn College ahead by a score of 7 to 6, but the Pioneers came right back With the winning tally. Hilliard, trying des- perately to get back into the game, had a pass in- tercepted. Wharton turned this into a score as the clock was running out. Tyler intercepted four Bucst aerials and recovered three fumbles to help them on their way to 2135 t08victory.
