Jack turned the Presidency over to Frank, but took the job of Vice President. Georgette remained our Secretary-Treasurer. (16) Marie and Chuck were elected to the Student Council. (17) Shelby was chosen as Junior member of the Annual Staff and Jeanette as art editor of the Carrier. Shirley remained a majorette in the band. Again our boys were out for football and a number made the first basketball team. (18) Mary Lou became a Jr. cheerleader. Near the end of September we began our magazine sales for the Curtis Publishing Co. and set a record for magazine sales with a total of $1475. 90. High Salesman was Georgette with $248. 05. She received a 3-way radio. Mary Lou K. was second with $187. 30 and Marie K. was third with $163. 50. They both received a 17-jewel Clinton wristwatch. Everyone in the class displayed fine salesmanship and effort in making this campaign a success. (19) On Dec. 26, our class displayed their acting ability by giving the well known play, Annie Get Your Gun. (Pages 23-24) Everyone agreed it was a wonderful suc- cess and well done for a play of its caliber. Georgette escorted by Charles and Shelby escorted by John F. were members of the Valentine Queen's court. (20) Marie K. placed first in the County and District and second in the Sectional American Legion Speech Contest. Jack and Jimmy Y. were chosen as delegates to Boys' State in Springfield, and Georgette and Marie K. to Girls' State in Jacksonville. (21) Chuck was honored by being chosen to go to Washington, D. C. with the Commercial Club as a Jr. delegate. (22) Several Juniors helped the club with the carnival. (23) On May 9, we gave the annual Junior-Senior banquet. (24) The theme was Under Western Skies. The servers were dressed as cowboys and cowgirls. Thanks to the help of the servers, students, and their mothers the banquet was very successful. (Pages 25-32) Many of us took part in the Minstrel Show in May. It was the first time in a num- ber of years that a show of that kind had been put on, and it was really a big success. (Pages 58-59) In the latter part of May we sent for our class rings, which was our first real Senior activity. As before our Junior year was climaxed with a picnic at Hillsboro Lake. (Pages 21 and 25) After a brief vacation we returned to school as Seniors. All we could think about was that this would be our last year at B. H. S. We have lost a number of students along the road. Mary Lou Fox became the wife of Arthur Stinebeiser and Marjorie White the wife of Alvin Hamman. Joseph Seketa, Ronald Luedloff, and Joseph Carpani have joined forces with Uncle Sam. Jack Lehman, Rolfe Giller, Donald Lolie and Ella Mae Langley are employed at various places. Alex Young is now a member of a neighboring high school. We regained a teacher when Mr. Marcacci returned from Arizona. At our first class meeting we elected Frank, Chuck, and Georgette as our class officers, Jack and Shelby for the Senior Committee, Marie K. and Wilbert for the Student Council. We are also serving in many other offices. Georgette is President of the GAA and Shelby is the Vice President. Marie K. is President of the Student Coun- cil. Shelby is editor of the Annual and Marie and Georgette are co-editors of the Carrier. A number of our boys are again active in sports.

Class History For years we have looked forward to that glorious day when we would hold the title of Seniors. Now that it is upon us; we can scarcely realize that we are there. We no longer look up to those before us, but instead stop to look back at the steps we have climbed to reach this goal. We were welcomed into high school in September, 1950, with a very warm recep- tion. How different we looked with our clothes on backwards and with all that paint and grease on--especially the boys. We soon became adjusted to our new way of life and were active in school affairs. At our first class meeting we elected Jack V. as President, Charles G. as Vice President, Georgette S. as Secretary-Treasurer (1) and Marie K. and Wilbert to the Student Coun- cil. (2) We were honored by having Mrs. Toigo and Mr. Corgiat as our class sponsors. Many of the boys went out for both football and basketball and made very good showings as Freshmen We all remember what a good basketball player Joe Seketa was, making the first string (3). Most of the girls joined the GAA, where we learned bowling, tennis, softball, basketball, and most of all--good sportsmanship. Donald G. was Stu- dent Manager in basketball (4). Soon our first exams, quite different from those in Grade School, rolled around and a number of us came through with flying colors. How proud we were to be on the Honor Roll. We had a Halloween class party and later in the year sponsored an all school dance which proved to be quite successful. Georgette and Marie K. were members of the Annual Staff. (5) Marie, Mary L. Fox, and Marjorie were members of the Rotary Queen's Court, Seven class members were in the band, two of which (Shirley and Marjorie), were majorettes (6). Most of us took part in the operetta. All at Sea, and many held leading parts. (10) Before long it was the end of May, and our first year of high school was climaxed by a picnic at Hillsboro Lake. (Page 21) Summer was soon over and we returned to school as experienced Sophomores. Jack, Chuck, and Georgette were re-elected as our class officers (7) and Wilbert and Marie to the Student Council. Ella Mae was our member of the Annual Staff. Many of the Sophomore boys proved their ability as athletes in football and basket- ball by earning a letter. Wilbert was a member of the first ten in basketball. Mr. Pete Makuh replaced Adolph Tenikat as our coach this year and was assisted in football by Mr. Joe Saracco. Ella Mae, Bette, and Mary K. were our candidates for Rotary Queen and they made fine showings by placing second and third. (8) Our Valentine Queen Candidate was Mary Lou F. who chose Jack Varcho as her escort. (9) Georgette and Shelby had the honor of being chosen to represent us at GAA Camp. Marie K. was Student Council delegate to the State Convention in Peoria. James Young was privileged to be one of the members of Peter Mack's annual trip to Washington, D. C. Four were still members of the band. (11) Georgette received the American Legion Award for music. (12) All the girls and most of the boys were honored by being asked to serve at the Junior- Senior Banquet. The theme was Indian Tepee. The boys were painted in Indian war paint and wore brown pants and the girls wore brown Indian dresses. All wore Indian headbands. (13) This year we again went to Hillsboro for our class picnic. (Page 21) In September we returned to school as Juniors. (14) We found two new teachers, Mr. Olson, the new coach, and Mrs. Denutte replacing Mr. Marcacci, who was on a leave of absence. (15)
