Senior History Now that our school days are becoming fewer and fewer, we look back on the wonderful experiences we have had with all our classmates and friends, and can't yet realize that it has been so long since we were freshies, (l) The initiation of our class on Septembet 6th opened the school year of 1949-1950 and marked the beginning of a whole new era of our lives. (2) We elected Tom, Lois and Shirley K. for our officers and Marilyn and Donald I. to the Student Council. We were soon active in the different school affairs. We contributed our share of boys to the football squad. Tom saw action in the first game of the season, which is quite remarkable for a freshman. A number of the boys were on the second basketball team. (3) Dolores, Roseanne, Marilyn, Kathleen and Lois became cheerleaders and have continued as such throughout the four years. (4) Most of the girls joined the G. A. A. (5) and were on a bowling team. Marjorie was our member in the Rotary Queen's Court. (6) Seven of us were and still are mem- bers of the band. (7) That spring we sponsored a school dance in the gymnasium. This was said to be the most successful of the entire year and were we ever proud! We closed our freshman year with an all-day picnic at the Hillsboro Lake. That fall we came back to school as well-experienced sophomores and were glad to be able to choose the subjects we wanted. Dolores, Tom and Kathleen were elected as our officers and Dale was elected to serve with Marilyn on the Student Council. Again we were active in athletics (8) music (9) etc. Lois became the Head Drum Ma- jorette (10) Roseanne was chosen Rotary Queen, (11) Marjorie and Donald B. were our representatives in the Valentine Queen's Court, (12) and Kathleen was chosen for G. A. A. Camp. April 6, we had our post-Easter dance, which we decided to make an annual affair. It was well organized and again was a huge success. In May, the vocal department of our school, under the direction of Mr. Makuh, presented-the operetta All At Sea. (13) It was a combination of five Gilbert and Sullivan operettas loosely woven into a plot. Of our class Tom, Marilyn, Phillip, Marieanne, John, Donald 1., Dolores and Shirley K. had leading parts and the re- mainder of our class were included in the choruses. Incidently, forty percent of the leading parts were held by the members of our class. Under the direction of Mr. Makuh and Mr. Philippe we took part in both vocal and instrumental divisions of the music contest and came home with first and second ratings. Our entire class served at the junior-senior banquet (14) We were dressed as Mexican peasants to correspond with the gay and colorful Mexican theme chosen by the junior class. The year was climaxed by an all-day picnic held again at Hillsboro Lake where we swam, ate and enjoyed a wonderful day. (15) The summer went fast and we returned to school in September as juniors. Donald I. , Kenneth and Kathleen were chosen to lead us through the busy year we had ahead of us. (16) Marjorie was elected to serve with Dale on the Student Council. To begin with, the magazine campaign confronted us in September. We worked hard and did a good job of selling magazines and the proceeds boosted our class finances considerably. Marieann, Marilyn and Kathleen ranked as high salesmen in that order. Marie received a kodak flash camera, Marilyn, a Parker 21 pen and pencil set and Kathleen, a large stuffed teddy bear. We had agreed not to spend much on prizes so as to retain more money in our treasury.
