Office Practice Class Senior History Now that our school days are becoming fewer and fewer, we look back on the wonderful experiences we have had with all our classmates and friends, and can't yet realize that it has been so long since we were freshies, (l) The initiation of our class on Septembet 6th opened the school year of 1949-1950 and marked the beginning of a whole new era of our lives. (2) We elected Tom, Lois and Shirley K. for our officers and Marilyn and Donald I. to the Student Council. We were soon active in the different school affairs. We contributed our share of boys to the football squad. Tom saw action in the first game of the season, which is quite remarkable for a freshman. A number of the boys were on the second basketball team. (3) Dolores, Roseanne, Marilyn, Kathleen and Lois became cheerleaders and have continued as such throughout the four years. (4) Most of the girls joined the G. A. A. (5) and were on a bowling team. Marjorie was our member in the Rotary Queen's Court. (6) Seven of us were and still are mem- bers of the band. (7) That spring we sponsored a school dance in the gymnasium. This was said to be the most successful of the entire year and were we ever proud! We closed our freshman year with an all-day picnic at the Hillsboro Lake. That fall we came back to school as well-experienced sophomores and were glad to be able to choose the subjects we wanted. Dolores, Tom and Kathleen were elected as our officers and Dale was elected to serve with Marilyn on the Student Council. Again we were active in athletics (8) music (9) etc. Lois became the Head Drum Ma- jorette (10) Roseanne was chosen Rotary Queen, (11) Marjorie and Donald B. were our representatives in the Valentine Queen's Court, (12) and Kathleen was chosen for G. A. A. Camp. April 6, we had our post-Easter dance, which we decided to make an annual affair. It was well organized and again was a huge success. In May, the vocal department of our school, under the direction of Mr. Makuh, presented-the operetta All At Sea. (13) It was a combination of five Gilbert and Sullivan operettas loosely woven into a plot. Of our class Tom, Marilyn, Phillip, Marieanne, John, Donald 1., Dolores and Shirley K. had leading parts and the re- mainder of our class were included in the choruses. Incidently, forty percent of the leading parts were held by the members of our class. Under the direction of Mr. Makuh and Mr. Philippe we took part in both vocal and instrumental divisions of the music contest and came home with first and second ratings. Our entire class served at the junior-senior banquet (14) We were dressed as Mexican peasants to correspond with the gay and colorful Mexican theme chosen by the junior class. The year was climaxed by an all-day picnic held again at Hillsboro Lake where we swam, ate and enjoyed a wonderful day. (15) The summer went fast and we returned to school in September as juniors. Donald I. , Kenneth and Kathleen were chosen to lead us through the busy year we had ahead of us. (16) Marjorie was elected to serve with Dale on the Student Council. To begin with, the magazine campaign confronted us in September. We worked hard and did a good job of selling magazines and the proceeds boosted our class finances considerably. Marieann, Marilyn and Kathleen ranked as high salesmen in that order. Marie received a kodak flash camera, Marilyn, a Parker 21 pen and pencil set and Kathleen, a large stuffed teddy bear. We had agreed not to spend much on prizes so as to retain more money in our treasury. Shirley K. represented our class in the Rotary Queen’s Court (17) and Kathleen escorted by George were in the Valentine Queen’s Court (18) Donald 1. was chosen by the faculty for Boys State and Kathleen for Girls State.(19) The next item on our junior year agenda was the junior class play. Hillbilly Courtship, which we gave in April. The very different and humorous plot combined with the dramatic talents of Donald I., Roseanne. Tom, and Kathleen provided for a most successful play. Other members of our class served as the supporting cast. (20) On April 18th we gave our annual post-Easter dance in the gymnasium. After the dance we began making plans for the junior-senior banquet that we were to sponsor in May. (21) We chose an Indian theme. The gymnasium was lavishly de- corated in russet colors. A large Indian teepee and a council fire at one end of the gym were the central figures of the decorative scheme. A few of the younger boys dressed as Indians, sat around the fire, and later gave an impressive Indian dance. (22) The sophomore servers were dressed as Indian maidens and braves in full Indian costume. For the first time in a few years the students remained at the school for social dancing after the dinner and really enjoyed each others’ company. Toward the end of our junior year we bought our class rings. We were the first calss to ever buy them before the senior year. The end of our junior year was marked by another all-day picnic at Hillsboro Lake. (23) We enjoyed the summer vacation, but when September came around, we were anxious to get back to school. Now we are seniors and are experiencing the last days of our high school life. Tom, Kenneth, and Kathleen were elected as officers. Shirley B. and Donald B. are serving on the Business Committee. Donald I. was again elected to the Student Council to serve with Marjorie. We realize we will be busy with all the activities of a graduating class. Yet we are well represented in athletics, music, Student Council, (24) and the paper staff. We have already chosen for our class motto, Together we launch, where shall we anchor? , for our class flower the yellow tea rose, and our class colors are blue and white. We are looking forward to our graduation in May. Our remaining activities of the year will be shown throughout the rest of the annual. Three of the girls who were with us in our freshman year will not be with us on graduation night. They are JoAnne Hinthorne, who transfered to another school in her freshman year, Norma Jean Larcker, who quit high school after her sophomore year and was recently married to Bill Cunningham, (25) and Monica Yatcko, (26) who left us this year and is working in St. Louis at present. We have certainly had a colorful and glorious history and want to take this oppor- tunity to thank everyone who has made such experiences as we have had possible for every young boy and girl of this community. Senior Class Prophecy Listen well, Oh my people, for I, Gitchemanito, the great white spirit of all Indians shall disclose my visions of the future for the braves and squaws of the Benld Tribe. Little Deerfoot, also known as SHIRLEY BRAIDO, after working as a female Jerry Lewis in a night club act has finally settled down with her brave and is now busy raising papooses. Dancing Elk or DONALD BILLY has left his old hunting grounds to attend college where he has gained fame as a track star. My vision grows a bit dim but before it disappears, I seem to see a little blonde squaw sharing his teepee with him. DOLORES DeMARTINI or Laughing Eyes to the members of her tribe has fulfilled her ambition of flying like the birds and after being an air force nurse has married a brave from a distant tribe, the Purple Panthers. Him-who-thinks-much, or as he is known in the science world, Prof. JOHN CASCIO is well known as the scientist which perfected the idea of using scotch tape to hold together the split atom. Crazy-Horse or KENNY EBERT, is too busy trying to accomplish his ambition of being a multi-millionaire at thirty to pay any attention to anything other than his chickens and his money. Firewater or PHIL- LIP EVANCHO has reached great heights in Hollywood where he was greeted as a second Rudolph Valentino and John Barrymore rolled into one. Look for him in the next remake of the The Shiek. MARILYN FREW or Brown Eyes, after being an airline stewardess has settled down in Benld and with her brave is now raising a baseball team. DALE GERLT or Koontoot as he is called in tribal circles has made his fortune by taking over the ownership of one of the biggest bowling alleys in the world, The Bowl, in Spring- field--from pin boy to owner, quite a jump! Dark Eyes or DONALD ISMARI has taken over Ted Mack's Amateur Hour on television. He is one boy who has really made his music do things for him for when he is not on television he and his orchestra play at the Copacabana. TOM Sitting Bull JURAVICH has achieved fame as a second Jim Thorpe. After taking part in the Olympics he has gone back to his job of playing line man for the Chicago Bears. MARVIN He-who-is-mighty KALASKIE has set up his own electrical shop right on the Indian reservation of Benld. He knew that there is no place like home so he came back to pick a squaw and put up his business. Marv is one of Benld's model citizens. ROSEANNE Happy Smile Moruskey has reached her goal in life--to be a farmer. She and her brave have 360 acres of good rich farmland and are raising heads and heads of beef cattle and tons and tons of wheat. She now wants to start raising thorough-bred horses. MARGIE MILCIC or One-who-is-calm- and-serene has forsaken the reservation for the big city. She has become a lady ex- ecutive only three years after her graduation from Browns Business College. Margie’s private secretary is GLORIA Fleet-Foot ROSA. Gloria still comes back to her old stamping grounds, for there is a young brave she wants to keep her eye on. KATH- LEEN PERADOTTO has been hailed as the second Florence Nightingale since she has taken over Sister Kenny's work in polio and has made a big advancement in it. ROBERT REMMERT or One-who-lingers-much is now a star attraction in the Bamum and Bailey Circus as the Daredevil that drives stock cars through flaming sheets of fire. Another B B feature is ALFRED Fearless VERNETTI who daily thrills hundreds of people by going through dozens of unbelievable tricks with his lions. Alfred took up lion training after he came back from his trip to Africa gathering species of insects for Coach Olson’s class. Continued on page 30 B Our { unior Play The Junior Class presented Hillbilly Courtship, a farce in three acts in April under the direction of Mr. Polonius. A brief synopsis of the play is: Ma Peppin, a widowed hillbilly, and Pa Stilsby, another widowed hillbilly, were constantly feuding. Luke, Pa’s son was secretly courting Emmy, Ma's daughter. Luke and Emmy, assisted by various comical characters succeeded in stopping the Peppin-Stilsby feud and even induced the marriage of Ma and Pa. Lazy Foot alias GEORGE KASARDA has completely overtaken the world of practical jokes with his sensational joker's kit. SOPHOMORE ZOO One fine spring day as I was on my way I happened to visit the zoo. An experience -- I wish might happen to you. My first shock came when I saw a zebra Who much to my surprise was ED ALEPRA. Peering through a barred fence I saw GEORGE BAIMA Looking very content as a Persian Llama. On a bench was a pigeon so prim Who was none other than BERTOGNOLLI JIM. I next saw RICHARD BERUTTI in the anteater's den Chatting with ALVERA LARCKER, a little wren. Looking to left whom should I see but DARYL (BUTCHER) Looking very dignified as an Arabian camel. And leading the beautiful swans whom did I see But someone who looked like our BEVERLY (CURTIS). Swimming among the lilies in the lagoon Was LARRY FRINSKO washing his food like any racoon. Soon I heard beautiful singing in a tree Lo and behold it was PAMELA (GRIVA) a canary. Then I saw the spider NORMAN ISMARI Making a nice juicy fly look very sorry. Looking at the pond whom should I see But FRANCES SEKETA a silver mink swimming gracefully. BETTY VARCHO a gold fish seemed to be giving a reply To her friend ELAINE MAKUH a beautiful monarch butterfly. Then my gaze fell on THOMSON PATTY A little green turtle sitting on a matty. Along the way I saw TED (LOPUSHINSKY) a busy beaver Who looked as ambitious as an Indian weaver. In one cage was DOMINIC INGRANDO a panther Walking around in a steady canter. In another cage a mighty lion — JOE ZERZOLIO was roaring as if he were dying. From that dreadful sound I had to go And met an elephant who was JOHN LACOPO. MIKE WENZEL and MIKE JATCHO I hastened to see Munching away on bananas as pretty could be. And pestering them with her humming was a bee Who was noe other than JOHNSON VICKI. As I went past the ostrich I saw MARVIN Munching on a leaf as if he were starving. In the center of the pond as if to a stake he were bound I saw JACK LESICKO a seal swimming round and round. Hearing a rustling, I turned around to see VALERIE SCOPEL, a peacock as proud as could be. BOBBIE WARGO a rabbit was munching a carrot And looking down in the pond, if I didn't see a parrot! Upon entering the town Senvern you will find a restaurant operated by CAROLE VERNA and JO ANN SENAK. In the next town you will find the Granchurcarp Band playing a very entertaining number and being led by direc- tor DICK CARPANI with AMANDA CHURA and PATSY GRANDONE the two leading players. In the same afternoon you can reach Bravlang where you will hear a beautiful soprano solo sung by ALICE LANGLEY accompanied by pianist EVELYN BRAVIN. If you wish to visit a modern dress shop in Tarterville. I recommend COOKIE'S Dress Shop. If in the next town Econbas. you need a cab call RICHARD ECONIE who runs the King's Cab Stand and will take you where you want to go, or if your own car develops engine trouble call Basso Bro. Garage where JIM will gladly fix it for you. At Granghulk you can stop at a confectionery operated by JACKIE GRAN- GER and BETTY JO HULKA. Only a few miles away in Fer you may see a crowd of children in an empty lot playing baseball. They will be coached by JAMES FERRERO, a professional ball player. For a very enjoyable evening you can go the the Katchbell Theater owned by MYRON KATZ. You will find JIM BELLOVICH and WESLEY CHERRY as two of the ushers. Instead of going to the show you may want to go to a dance. I then recommend The Blue Ballroom in Oberchur owned by TEDDY CHURA and DONNIE OBERTINO. In Spagableon you will see an insurance company operated by JOHN SPAGNOLA. Next to the insurance company you will find a Lumber and Supply Company operated by ANTON LEONE and DON ABBATE. If you happen to get sick when you arrive in Bedeberneur, see one of the town's two reliable doctors Dr. BILLY EBERT and Dr. EUGENE NEUMEISTER. If you get your clothes soiled, I recommend KATHLEEN'S Dry Cleaners. In Caszermag you may want to visit the high school. There you will find LEE ZERBOLIO as P.E. and History teacher. THERESSA MAGELLI the Science teacher, and Principal LAWRENCE CASIO who also teaches English and Chemistry. In a rival school at Zercurplov you will find JACK PLOVICH the P.E. instructor and coach of the football team, HOWARD CURTIS as the Biology teacher and LYN ZERBOLIO as the Mathematics teacher. Not far away in Kosmacwee you will see JUDY KOSCHAK and SHIRLEY McWeeny who are opera- ting a rest home which you might enjoy a few days. First row: J. Bertagnolli, (S. Manager) D. Obertino, D. Neumeister. Joe Wall and basketball Summary This season was an unlucky one for the Benld Indians as they were defeated in all nine games. The main reason for this was the fact that nine of the lineup were Sophomore and Freshman boys. We hope that the experience that they got this year will help in building our future teams. The two boys that will be missing next year are Kenneth Ebert and Tom Juravich, who was named honorary captain of the 1952 team. We Seniors wish next year's team the best of luck.
