Bland High School is situated on the Walker’s Creek and Holston Turnpike, approximately one- fourth mile south of the Bland County Courthouse. It is bounded on the south by Walker’s Big Mountain and on the north by Brushy Mountain. The area is basically rural, with the majority of its population being landowners of inheritance with a strong sense of independence and self- sufficiency. With the completion of Interstate 77 which bisects the county, Bland has grown steadily year by year. However, heritage still plays a big part in Bland County. Thanks to the guidance of Bland County parents and teachers, Bland High School students are brought up in an atmosphere of loyalty to their school and patriotism toward their country. Perhaps this is why Bland alumni excel in their chosen fields. As well as an abundance of clear, free-running creeks and lush, green meadows, Bland boasts a high school student body that is capable of win- ning state basketball championships and rating first in the state on competency tests—not a bad record for a group A school!
