We feel that these trials are lightened, somewhat, by the kindness and understanding of our faculty. We, the 1971 Senior Class, feel that we might show our appreciation to the one who has helped us most by dedicating this, the 1971 ECHO, to our sponsor, Mr. J. M. Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas In Honor The 1971 Senior Class wishes to honor their co- sponsor, Mrs. Ruth Kcgley, for her. help and guidance through the past three years. Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Keglcy work in close associa- tion to help the Senior class. Miss Echo And Candidates Every year, a girl is selected from each class to sell sub- scriptions for 'THE ECHO . The girl who sells the most annuals gains the title of Miss Echo. Candidates for Miss Echo 1971 were: Linda Munsey, Twelfth grade; Ginger Kidd, Eleventh grade; Sheree Sadler, Tenth grade; Paula McPea k, Ninth grade; Sharon Goins, Eighth grade Miss Echo 1971 -- Ginger Kidd Linda Munsey Sheree Sadler Prom 70-71 On Saturday evening, May 2, 1970 the Wagner Auditorium was converted into a spring garden as the 1971 Seniors presented This Magic Moment, The focal point was a gigantic wishing well with a babbling watterfall in the background. Music was provided by the Velvet Soul and even those who didn't care to dance enjoyed the delicious refreshments. Cindy Muncy, Anne Dunn, and Sheree Sadler attend refreshment table. MacCord, uncovered an Indian village near Bastian, in Bland County. The excava- tion showed that the ancient village, about 200 years old, consisted of 11 houses and 90 to 100 inhabitants. The Indians were thought to have been a peaceful tribe and died primarily of disease. Col. MacCord said that the importance of the Bland find was that it was the oldest and most complete Indian com- munity yet unearthed east of the Mississippi River. In all, 14 skeletons were recovered and are now stored in the state musuem in Richmond. Indentures indicating where stockade stood One of Col.
