Shannon 6 MISS ECHO AND CANDIDATES Representatives from five high school classes competed for the 1967 Miss Echo title. Miss Joyce Bryant, a Senior, gained her reign at the end of the Echo sub- scription campaign. Other candidates included Sandra Smith, a Freshman; Jeannette King, a Junior; Pat Green, a Sophomore; and Patsy Bruce, an Eighth Grader. STUDENT CO OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION The SCA council of Bland High School is composed of the six officers, the homeroom representatives and the presidents of all classes and clubs. The Bland SCA was host to the Clinch Valley District Meeting November 12, 1966. District officers from BHS include Nancy Dalton, Chairman, Jodie Richardson, corresponding secretary and John Gathright, recording secre- tary. A GREAT HONOR The 1964 SCA council incorporated a scholastic letter award system into BHS. The letter is awarded to those students of high scholastic ability who maintain a 95 or above average. A letter or bar is awarded at the end of the term; at mid-term a card is presented to those who have achieved these requirements. The letters and bars remain the property of the school until the student graduates. Students must sign a pledge stating they will return the awards if their conduct does not uphold the standards of the award.
