CLASS HISTORY Only four short year s ago a class of Fifty-five wide -eyed freshmen entered the doors of Bland High School for a journey through English, Science, Mathematics, History, Agriculture, Home Economics, and many other interesting books, Mrs. Ruth B. Kegley was our home room sponsor during our freshman year. In spite of our dumbness we passed into our Sophomore year with a greater desire to learn. We began our Sophomore year with forty-five students under the leadership of Mr. Harry Tuell, our homeroom sponsor. This year was very quiet with the exception of constant lectures from the teachers and principal. Our Junior Year was very exciting. We received our class rings, enjoyed a delightful Junior- Senior Banquet, had a Junior Class Dance, and gave a thrilling class play entitled T’m a Family Crisis,” We numbered 41 this year having gained 5 students from Hollybrook. Our sponsor this year was Miss Majorie Blankenship. We, also acquired a new principal this year Mr. Victor R. Gilly whom we liked very much. We were sorry however to lose our principal Mr. Eugene Smith who had been with us since the beginning of our high school career. We began our senior year with thirty-four students under the leadership of Mrs. Helen P. Hardy. We thought we were dignified seniors but the teachers didn’t classify us as such. We gained Miss Mary Greever as our English Teacher. Miss Joan Thompson came to us as Fourth Grade Teacher. Mrs. Lucy B. Litton became our Home Economics teacher. We regretted losing Mrs. Jane Stafford. The time will soon roll around for us to leave dear B. H. S. but as all Seniors we are anxious for the adventures. CLASS PROPHECY 1953 - 54 We, the prophets of the class of ’54 can not give a true report of what each person will do in life, but we shall attempt to predict the future, ten years, hence: Mack Kitts is now a driver for the Greyhound Lines. He just received the award, “The Safest Driver of the year.” Iretta Kidd is now happily married. Her last name by the way is “Tickle.” Patsy Baker grew tired of her nursing career early and now is happily married. By the way she is now playing nursemaid to her triplets. Romantic Alfred Smith has gotten his divorce from Rita Hayworth and the court also granted him custody of their small daughter, “Radaress. Jamie Muncy’s talent has at last been discovered. She is in Hollywood starring in “How To Be a Safe Driver.’’ Margaret Bruce, who we thought would settle down with a clerk at Bland Market, has her eyes now on a boy with a black Chevrolet. “Looks as if this might be it. Donald Chewning is raising corn in partnership with his brother Larry on the former Blankenship estate near Mechanic sburg. Janet Francis, now Mrs. Earl C. Faulkner, is very proud of her second set of twins. Mr . and Mr s. David Hubble and their four small sons are now living in South America. Mrs. Hubble is the former Miss Betty Hardy. Just read in a Baltimore paper of the approaching marriage of Dolly Neal to Eugene. Barbara Sex- ton, a former student of Bland High School is to be Maid of Honor. After serving in the Army for ten years. Pvt. James Thompson has finally finished serving on K. P. for talking back to his Sergeant. Willard Peck who was always loud, is now selling papers on the street corner. Dorothy Gusler is now Dean of Radford College. It is rumored that she has her eye on a certain history professor. Irene Hounshell has given up her Business career and settled down somewhere in t he vicinity of Mechanicsburg a certain Reverend. Randolph Davis is now Ambassador to China. David Miller has just been elected to serve the counties of Bland and Giles in the House of Delegates. “Wild Danny “Tickle ” is expected to win the World’s championship from Gorgeous George in next week’s Madison Square Garden Wrestling Bout. Jean Ann Morehead has just returned from New York City bringing with her the latest fashions from “Saks Fifth Ave.” Rayella Terry is now a stock car driver and Lewis Dillow is her mechanic. Lewis took plenty of time from school to learn his trade. Ronald Kidd, now a private eye, is still a ladies man. He is now working on a case for the ladies of America, Why Gentlemen perfer Marilyn. Jane Bird is now Home Demonstration Agent for Bland County. She is conducting a program on Child Care. She must be experienced because I heard she is now the mother of six children. Lois Pruett has just completed her nurse’s training. Could there be a doctor in her future? Jack Hylton, state trooper in Bland, caught Lee Tate speeding through Ceres. No Wonder! Lee had just become a father for the first time. Randolph Waddle has finally dragged that girl from Ceres to the altar. They will make their home in the city of Waddletown. Lillie Mae Goins has finally hooked the guy named “Bill.” They are now living at Niagara Falls, N. Y. - Tucker Harden is really breaking the gal’s hearts, especially after he bought his new convertible. Dane Havens is now the star player of the New York Yankees. Dane’s batting average last year was .800. Darnell Miller’s latest recording of, “Jeanie with the light brown hair,” looks like a real hit. Robert Kegley is now judge of the district court. Of all the trials he has attended his hat hasn’t missed a one. Regena Dykes is now the owner of a swank new beauty shop in Abingdon, Va. where a former student of Bland High School, Gayle Lambert, now Mrs. Vandall Thomas is her favorite customer. Kenneth Walker has expanded The Brushy Mt. Drive Inn. It is now one of the largest restaurants in the world. Eleanor Davis is now the wife of one of the best farmers in Bland County.
