CLASS WILL We, the senior class of Bland High School, County of Bland and State of Virginia being of unsound mind and disintegrating memory cifter four strenuous years, do here- by make, publish and declare this our last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills, bequests and devices of whatever nature by us already made. I, W. R, Billow, leave my studious ways to Jack Hylton. I, Jimmy Hylton, will my ability to be Miss Brown’s little test tube to Bobby Kegley. I, Eddie King, will all my excuses for going to the library to Kenneth Walker. We, Nadine Lambert and Polly Shewey, hereby will our ability to stick together as Siamese twins to Billy Muncy and Danny Bird. I, Richard Baker, leave my ability to do carpenter work to Bobby Newberry. I, Donald Kidd, will my nickname “Charley Goat’’ to my brother, Richard. I, David Dunn, will my ability to argue, to Tommy Mallory. I, Barbara Bane, will my ability to have a good time in Chemistry class to Janet Bird. I, Tommy Morehead, bequeath anything but my ambition to Lois Pruett. 1, Roger Morehead, will my singing ability to Jamie Muncy. I, Johnny Stafford, will my blonde hair to Barbara Sadavonik. I, Dayton Ramsey, leave a portion of my weight to Ruby Wilson, I, Kathleen Muncy, will my gift of gab to Betty Hardy. I, Raymond Lambert, will Mrs. Hardy’s red pocketbook to Bobby Strock. I, Jimmy Pauley, leave my baseball ability to Russel Pennington. I, Dewayne Kitts, leave my driving ability to Mrs. Hardy, should she need it? 1, Betty Bruce, will my position as being the youngest member of my class to Jr. Hall. I, Sue Ann Kidd, will my silly ways to Jane Bird. I, Doris Tomlinson, will my ability to sing in English to Alfred Smith. I, John Wayne Pennington, will my ability to play the piano to Ralph Cahill. I, Louise Puckett, leave my modesty and bashfulness to Betty Wilson, I, Sara Betty Muncy, will my everlasting love and friendship for Miss Brown to Gail Lambert. I, Jean Kimberling, will my seat in the senior room to Elmer Lundy. I, Shirley Patton, leave my ability for mopping the lunchroom floor to Rayella Terry. I, Robert Morris, leave my good nature to the faculty. I, Jo Ann Morehead, will all my excuses for staying out of class to Iretta Kidd. I, Johnny King, will my sarcastic ways to Mack Kitts. We, Nancy Waddle and Betty Chandler, will our height to Phyllis Newberry. I, Mary Ella Mann, will my friendly disposition to Carolyn Morehead. I, Peggy Waddle, will my well groomed hair and ability to have a good time to Irene Hounshell, I, J. H. Sarver, will my charming personality to David Miller. To Mr. Gilly and the faculty, we leave all loose paper on the floor and all the chewing gum on the desks. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We, the Seniors of 1953, would like to review for you some of the high lights of our history during the four years we have spent in Bland High School. When our class entered school as Freshmen we were a group of enthusiastic, eager, and ambitious students with never a doubt that life would run smoothly for us. We entered with fifty- two members strong. Mr. Smith, our principal, gave us Mrs. Annie K. Dunn for our home room teacher, which pleased us greatly. First she helped us organize our class with the following officers: President Floyd Taylor Vice-President Sue Ann Kidd Secretary-Treasurer Kathleen Muncy Reporter Sara Betty Muncy Home Room Representative Barbara Bane We did not escape the usual tortures of the Sophomores which have become a tradition in all schools. We accepted their tantalizing as a part of the high school game and were none the worse for it. The Freshmen year with all its difficulties had passed very quickly. At the beginning of our Sophomore year sixteen members of the class did not come back. Some moved away, a few had to stop school to go to work and others were lured away by outside interests. The number that returned was thirty-six. Our class officers for our Sophomore year were: President Kathleen Muncy Vice-President David Dunn Secretary-Treasurer Barbara Bane Reporter Eddie King Home Room Representative Peggy Waddle Many of our members turned out for basketball this year, as we had become more grown-up. Again we had Mrs. Annie K. Dunn as our home room teacher. Now we will see what took place in our Junior year. We returned in September 1951 as upperclassmen- Juniors. A deeper sense of responsibility had seized us, and we assumed the air of having big things to accomplish, so we began our cam- paign at once. It was our Junior year that we looked forward to the day we should receive our class jewelry and also the Junior-Senior Banquet which turned out very successful. Our class officers were: President Sue Ann Kidd Vice-President Kathleen Muncy Secretary-Treasurer Peggy Waddle Reporter Sara Betty Muncy Home Room R epresentative Betty Bruce At the close of the Junior year we chose two boys and two girls to attend Old Dominion Boys State and Virginia Girls State. They were David Dunn, Dewayne Kitts, Betty Bruce and Mary Ella Mann. We entered the Senior year with thirty-four members. We felt a great sense of dignity and responsibility. Our class officers were as follows: President John Lundy Vice-President Mary Ella Mann Secretary-Treasurer Peggy W addle Reporter Barbara Bane Mr. Gilly, our principal, gave us Mrs. Helen P. Hardy for our home room teacher. She proved a great help as class sponsor and “The Echo sponsor. Some interesting high lights during the senior year were: Senior girls and sponsor had pictures taken in drapes for school annual. A number of seniors attended a football game at Charlottesville in October. The Junior-Senior Banquet was the out- standing social event of the year. Several one-act plays including the “Pink Dress” to enter the play festival and the Senior Play were outstanding events during the Senior year. All too soon the time came for making commencement plans, as all good things must come to an end, our class must separate, but each member will carry with him these traits, accom- plishments and influences that Bland High has given him.
