The obvious difference in a “ big school and a small school” is the spirit. Although BHS is 3A, we still consider ourselves small in size — but, oh, that spirit! Players, coaches, parents, and fans all get into the act of raising spirit on the field, on the court, and in the stands. (Top left): Pep club members supervise sophomore beauty contestants (initiates for initiation) at the stadium. (Be ou left): Brenda Brooks adds her free throw against Tuttle. (I ft): Debi Guess and Kelly Shaw ‘raise” spirit for the Lions. Football Cheerleaders bring the spirit down town. Kelly Bright puts muscle in that swing.

Lunchtime there are many ways to spend it. While some students use their lunch hour to study, others to visit with friends, and some to sleep, there are those animals who become totally absorbed in eating. James Claborn, Les Willard, and Brad Loftin seem to be racing through their meal. It was a spaghetti-eating race sponsored by the H.S. music department, and it drew a variety of competitors. (Above) Tony James seems to have slowed down, but then notice how many bowls he has. (Above right) Greg Ogle, Meat Hall, and Allen Auld take this eating business seriously as Larry May and Mimi Cove offer encouraging words. Pete Frullo watches in admiration as Jimmy Parsons appears to have devised a method of raking it in that seems to work.
