PE DEDICATION TO A FINE TEACHER Thirty-seven years ago. Mrs. Mabel Lewis began her leaching career with only one semester of college and a temporary leaching certificate. She taught all subjects in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades while also serving as janitor, cook and coach of the boys' and girls' basketball games and the baseball team. She later served as the principal also. Before coming to Blanchard four years ago, Mrs. Lewis had taught at Achille, Blue, Washington, Murray Stale College, and OCU. Mrs. Lewis has seen many changes in education and students. She thinks students today are more knowledgeable and more healthy but they lack the desire to learn and lack respect lor authority. Her students here at Blanchard, though, have been a joy to have and have, we know, enjoyed her. We shall all truly miss Mabel Lewis. Catmint D Wheeler. W Sharp, M Spencer, 0. Lee Ru Drlvart: K. Because the staff was so large this year, it seemed to take longer to reach decisions, but under the experience of editors Lorie McCraw and Delaine Lynch the staff has produced a book which will provide many lasting memories for all students of BHS. 53 FOOTBALL T Rew: (L-M): D McKnley, R. The numbers were few so the Lions had to depend on the talents of younger players, including freshmen, four of whom started at various times of the year. Despite the inexperience the Lions tallied a respectable 16-17 record, including a seventh straight district championship Pitching and hitting proved to be the Lions' strong point, while defense seemed to cause the problems. After a teaching and learning year, the Lions should be strong next year and may reschedule their reservations in Tulsa in the not-so-distant future. 61 SOFTBALL Slttim Rtw C. Cooley. J Oueen.
