The 1981 annual staff have spent a busy summer and year planning and preparing the 1981 Lion. Using a theme of “Putting the Pieces Together , the staff designed their cover with puzzle grain and used puzzle pieces throughout. The staff is composed of many veterans and added some novices this year. After attending workshops in the summer and the fall, the staff really organized and for one hit every deadline. Blocking for a punt return The ’80 edition of the Blanchard football Lions held nany surprises and lots of excitement for fans. After the 79 state championship, many felt this year might be down for the Lions. But those who attended the first ;ame at Comanche which saw the Lions win in double ivertime knew they were in for an exciting season. The text week’s overtime victory over rival Newcastle set the one for the Lions’ season as they gathered a six-game wining streak and rolled up an impressive 8-3 record, getting lusted by Wynnewood in the play-offs. After starting the eason with what some regarded as scattered pieces, the oaches put together a fine puzzle that hung together all ear. Barry pushes hard. This page sponsored by Francis Enterprise. After traveling to the state tournament four years in succession and winning two back-to-back state championships, the baseball Lions were tabbed to experience a “down year”. However, the Lions who have built a baseball tradition did not listen to the talk and chalked up a 23-7 season, capturing the Lindsay tournament, along with the district and regional tournaments to make their fifth straight appearance in Tulsa. They humiliated Ida-bel and fell to powerhouse Byng in a heartbreaker semifinal game that saw the seniors’ hopes of three straight championships vanish. They accomplished all this after losing six starters and returning only one veteran in his usual position. By the end of the season all the pieces came together to form the Lion team of ’81. Good things may be in store again as the seniors leave behind a winning legacy to many able lettermen. 49 BHS SOFTBALL Back row: C. Lampkin. M. Siler, G. Matheny, D. Davis, C. Tinkham. T. Jones. Facing the new year with much anticipation and excitement, the Senior class gradually put the pieces together and settled into their senior year. They participated in every aspect of school life ranging from sports, to banquets proms, to homecoming. They tried to conquer everything that they came upon and were usually quite successful. Out of the 76 graduating Seniors 47 are planning on furthering their education. They will take with them the memories of their special friends, all the good and bad times, BHS, and especially their year, “1981”. 70 £ofin Bailiy jCynAa Baitty - -ynn Btek dtcm 'UteyCafi CliafxfitlX £aoti CfiiCtL HBxonita doiCty dinAij J$znnL± iZJ’uxczy mon ™r ve hv3 w]]3 cz otjext czf ainzt. 78 J?okn OilioUon John Bailey — Ag. 4 yrs.
