Library Science There are certain basic skills and knowledges beyond the proverbial three R’s which students acquire. One of the most important is the use of books and libraries. This skill is particularly needed when teaching is planned around the intensive treatment of a broad topic, as in the unit plan of instruction which is used by many teachers today. It is the purpose of the library program here to guarantee a minimum exposure to basic library procedure. Those who learn to use research skills successfully will find that they can satisfy curiosity, do independent reading, and enjoy books, recordings, and other materials without continued guidance of teachers and librarians. If this knowledge is acquired early in life, children will feel secure in their approach to school and public libraries and later in college and university libraries. This year, library science was offered to students as a class.
