The Annual Staff, on behalf of the Blanchard school faculty and student body, has reserved this part of the 1968-69 Lion in memory of Debbie Fierce F-'ebruary 4, 1952 August 12, 1968 Debbie was killed in an automobile accident in the summer of 1968, before she would have begun her junior year. We have missed her this past year; her place in our school and in our hearts will not be filled. 4

The Blanchard Annual Staff proudly dedicates the 1968-1969 yearbook to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Terrell. This dedication is in order, we feel, not only because both Mr. and Mrs. Terrell are retiring after a combined 74 years in the field of education but, much more important, because of their contribution to the students who have attended Blanchard public schools and to the community of Blanchard. Mrs. Andrew J. Terrell was born Winnie Potter, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Potter who, at that time, lived in Lexington, Oklahoma. She was the third of five children and attended elementary school in Lexington. The Potter family moved to the Blanchard area when Mrs. Terrell was about 14 years old. She attended school at Blanchard for three years but graduated from high school at Central High School in Edmond. She then attended college at East Central, Oklahoma University, Central State, but received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha. She was married to Andrew Terrell on July 18, 1925, and began teaching the next year at Bond School which was north of Blanchard. She taught there for two years and then came to Blanchard where she has taught a total of 28 years, taking time from teaching only to raise a family. During her years as a classroom teacher, Mrs. Terrell taught more than just readin', writin', and 'rithmetic. She taught her students responsibility, evaluative thinking and reasoning, and, by her own example, successful and useful living. Andrew J. Terrell was born in Burnt Prairie, Illinois, to Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Terrell, the ninth of twelve children. He attended elementary school in Illinois, Southwestern Oklahoma, El Reno, and Blanchard. His junior high and high school years were spent at Bridgecreek and Blanchard. He attended East Central State College in Ada where he received both his Bachelor and Master's Degrees. His first teaching experience was in 1925 at Freeney, which was three miles east of Blanchard. He then taught at Bond School, north of Blanchard, for two years before coming to Blanchard. He was at Blanchard from 1928 until 1969—41 years. He was a classroom teacher for 6 years, a coach, a principal for 28 years, and superintendent of Blanchard public schools from 1959 to 1969. Anyone who ever had Mr. Terrell as a teacher knows of his dedication and innate teaching ability; those who had him as a coach know of his self-discipline and high principles; as a principal, he is well known for his control-ability, his fairness, his perseverance, and his wit; and as a superintendent, Mr. Terrell has been uncomparable in the eyes of both students and teachers because of an ability given to only a few—the ability to lead. The new Blanchard high school is named for Mr. Terrell and stands as a tribute to an outstanding man and educator.
