Sophomores OFFICERS AND SPONSORS Sophomore Class of ‘68 ‘69 Standmg-Mr. Richard Northington, Spun.; Rebecca Freeman, Reporter; Richard Brown. Sgt.-At-Arms; Teresa Barrington, Sec. Treas.; Mrs. Gene lie Richey, Spon. Seatcd-Bctty McClain, Pres.; Trcssa Whinery, Vice-Pres. Well, the Sophomore year is over and the Junior year coming up. but everyone is still looking back and remembering our glorious sophomore year As we look back, the class elected Betty McClain as our class president and to support her, we elected Tressa Whinery as Vice President. We then elected Teresa Barrington as Secretary and Treasurer and Rebecca Freeman as Reporter and Richard Brown as Sergeant at Arms. Gail Brown and Eddie Binyon represented their class as Annual Staff. We have good looking girls in our class as evidenced by Betty McClain who was our Football Queen Attendant for the Lion's Homecoming. Also, to show what good looking girls are supposed to look like we had Brenda Sullivan, Sandra Montgomery, and Billye Cheatham for cheerleaders from our class. In addition to looking good they also boosted the players from our class Football players from the Sophomore class included: Richard Agee. Eddie Binyon. Tommy Daniel. Dee Lewis, Bruce Pierce. Geary Cladwell Maurice Massey, and Daryl Mitchell. Our class was equally represented in basketball. The players on the girls' team were Gail Brown, Teresa Barrington. Teresa Haygood, Billye Cheatham, Rebecca Freeman, and Lisa Jones. Billye Cheatham was selected as Honorable Mention on the Canadian Valley Conference. Boys going out for basketball were Maurice Massey, Richard Agee. Tommy Daniel, Eddie Binyon, and Bruce Pierce As soon as basketball season was over, baseball was under way. The Sophomore class had Tommy Daniels. Bruce Pierce, and Raymond Swmney on the baseball team. Incidentally our baseball team won the Canadian Valley Conference Tournament. Both FHA and FFA had many members from the Sophomore class. The Blanchard Chapter of FHA entertained the other chapters at the State Convention this year and some of the Sophomore girls were part of that entertainment. Officers in FHA from the Sophomore class were Teresa Barrington, project chairman, and Gail Brown, photographer. The FHA girls selected Maurice Massey as the Sophomore candidate for FHA Beau, and the Sophomore FFA boys selected Beth Lauen as their candidate for FFA Sweetheart. The Sophomore class participated fully in music. Sophomore girls in the high-school Double Sextet were Sandra Montgomery. Brenda Sullivan, and Teresa Barrington. Sophomores almost made the Boys' Octet-Richard Agee. Eddie Binyon. Raymond Swinney, Bruce Pierce. Dee Lewis, and John Gable were all a part of this group. Music officers from our class included Billye Cheatham who was elected to be Treasurer. We have both beauty and brams-we have already talked about beauty so now it is time to discuss the latter of the two. In the Awards Assembly, Raymond Swinney won the Geometry Award. Gail Prigmore won the Biology and Typing I Award, Tommy Daniel received the Driver's Ed. Award, Eddie Binyon received the Scholastic Award, and both Eddie Binyon and Gail Brown won the Special Annual Award. The State Honor Society consisted of 7 Sophomores, and this was more than 50% of the total number from our school. They were Richard Agee, Teresa Barrington, Eddie Binyon, Betty McClain. Charles Young. Beth Lauen, and Tommy Daniel. Again, after one great Sophomore year, we would likt; to thank Mrs. Richey and Mr. Northington for being great sponsors. 20
