Terrell High School Blanchard, Oklahoma Dedication Mr. and Mrs. Terrell The Blanchard Annual Staff proudly dedicates the 1968-1969 yearbook to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Terrell. This dedication is in order, we feel, not only because both Mr. and Mrs. Terrell are retiring after a combined 74 years in the field of education but, much more important, because of their contribution to the students who have attended Blanchard public schools and to the community of Blanchard. Mrs. Andrew J. Terrell was born Winnie Potter, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Potter who, at that time, lived in Lexington, Oklahoma. She was the third of five children and attended elementary school in Lexington. The Potter family moved to the Blanchard area when Mrs. Terrell was about 14 years old. She attended school at Blanchard for three years but graduated from high school at Central High School in Edmond. She then attended college at East Central, Oklahoma University, Central State, but received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha. She was married to Andrew Terrell on July 18, 1925, and began teaching the next year at Bond School which was north of Blanchard. She taught there for two years and then came to Blanchard where she has taught a total of 28 years, taking time from teaching only to raise a family. During her years as a classroom teacher, Mrs. Terrell taught more than just readin', writin', and 'rithmetic. She taught her students responsibility, evaluative thinking and reasoning, and, by her own example, successful and useful living. Andrew J. Terrell was born in Burnt Prairie, Illinois, to Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Terrell, the ninth of twelve children. He attended elementary school in Illinois, Southwestern Oklahoma, El Reno, and Blanchard. His junior high and high school years were spent at Bridgecreek and Blanchard. He attended East Central State College in Ada where he received both his Bachelor and Master's Degrees. His first teaching experience was in 1925 at Freeney, which was three miles east of Blanchard. He then taught at Bond School, north of Blanchard, for two years before coming to Blanchard. He was at Blanchard from 1928 until 1969—41 years. He was a classroom teacher for 6 years, a coach, a principal for 28 years, and superintendent of Blanchard public schools from 1959 to 1969. Anyone who ever had Mr. Terrell as a teacher knows of his dedication and innate teaching ability; those who had him as a coach know of his self-discipline and high principles; as a principal, he is well known for his control-ability, his fairness, his perseverance, and his wit; and as a superintendent, Mr. Terrell has been uncomparable in the eyes of both students and teachers because of an ability given to only a few—the ability to lead. The new Blanchard high school is named for Mr. Terrell and stands as a tribute to an outstanding man and educator. The Annual Staff, on behalf of the Blanchard school faculty and student body, has reserved this part of the 1968-69 Lion in memory of Debbie Fierce F-'ebruary 4, 1952 August 12, 1968 Debbie was killed in an automobile accident in the summer of 1968, before she would have begun her junior year. We have missed her this past year; her place in our school and in our hearts will not be filled. 4 FACULTY Administration A. J. TERRELL B.J. Reporter; Charles Clark. President; Mr. Sober, Sponsor. Seated - Kathy bailey. Treasurer, Betty Wilson, Vice President. Not pictured: Mr. Homan. Sponsor. Ah Yes! Once again we have triumphed over the everyday problems of high school and have almost reached the end of the annals of knowledge. . .or should I say the beginning. Once again we have come out on top—This time as Seniors. We had representatives in everything from athletics and music to home economics and agriculture. The great fearless leader of our class. Charlie Clark, had many loyal (?), trustworthy (?), and dependable (?) subjects to rely (?) on. His fellow leaders being Betty Wilson. Jerry Neal. Kathy Bailey and Randy Staton. Cindy Francis and Eddie Kimbrell were the Annual Staff Representatives from the Junior Class. In the corridors of our school cowered the backbone of this year's football team: Rick Remington. Terry Bridwell, Allen McDonald, Jerry Neal, Tommy Bergman and Ray Queen. They were, at all times, ready to be flagged (or maybe flogged) into action by their coaches and our sponsors, Mr. Sober and Mr. Homan. On the sidelines, raising spirit and money, were the loudest mouths in BHS--our Junior girls. Our girls included Londa Pierson, Rhonda Beth Brooks. Betty Wilson, and of these three, three were leaders -Londa was cheerleader, Rhonda Beth was Vice-President during football and President during basketball, and Betty was Secretary. Jerry Neal, Terry Bridwell, Tim Boyer, Gary Foster, and Tommy Bergman made the score rise for the basketball team. (We won't mention whose score). Genelle Adams and Cindy Francis were our contribution to the girls' basketball team. Our track stars included: Terry Bridwell, Jerry Neal, Rick Remington, Eddie Kimbrell, and Tommy Bergman. Terry Bridwell also won the Track Award. Genelle Adams, Betty Wilson. Londa Pierson, Kathy Bailey and Sherry McConnell kept the FHA in a mess as officers. The rest of us. as members, didn't help much either. In all, ten Juniors were active in FHA. They were Sherry McConnell. Betty Wilson. Rhonda Beth Brooks. Helen Brown. Genelle Adams. Kathy Gibson, Kathy Bailey, Londa Pierson. Cindy Francis, and Kezetta Greenmyer. Next year. Betty Wilson will serve our Chapter as President. FFA was crowded with Juniors, and Jerry Neal was an FFA Officer. Others in FFA included Rick Remington, Paul Rollings, Allen Ketter. Allen McDonald. Tim Lambert, Ricky Dillard, Ray Queen, Carl Kirkham, Danny McGraw. Terry Bridwell. The FFA boys selected Londa Pierson to be their FFA Sweetheart. After basketball we turned our screaming voices and innocent minds over to Mrs. Bard to be trained in the art of ng. We became angelic cherubs strumming our harps in Mixed Chorus and Girls Glee Club. Two of our cherubs strummed in the Double Sextet -Rhonda Beth Brooks and Cindy Francis. Others in Music included Kathy Bailey, Betty Wilson, Londa Pierson, Dorothy Kitchens, and Helen Brown. Our greatest accomplishment this year (besides passing) was the Junior-Senior Banquet. The theme was the Roaring Twenties, and being as modest as we are. we know it was the greatest yet! We had everything from flappers and Minski's girls to silent movies. It was great! Our Award-Winning Class had some award winners of its very own. Kathy Bailey won the Woodman of the World History Award, Tommy Bergman won the Basketball Award, Betty Wilson will represent Blanchard at Girls' State, Terry Bridwell won the Track Award, Kozetta Greenmyer won the Typing II Award, Rhonda Brooks won the Shorthand Award, Cindy Francis won Special Annual Staff Award, Randy Staton won the Drafting Award and the Scholarship Award was received by Kathy Bailey. Juniors who were a part of the State Honor Society included Kathy Bailey and Betty Wilson. All in all, we have a pretty talented class. Next year we'll take our place on the panel among the cobwebs quietly and modestly as the Class of 1970. We would like to thank our sponsors, Mr. Homan and Mr. Sober, for helping us in our endeavors through this year. 16 Gcnclle Adams Kathy bailey Tommy Bergman Ronnie Beach Tim Boyer David Brewer Terry Bridwell Rhonda Brooks Helen Brown Danny Burns Kathy Carpenter Donna Casey Charles Clark David Covington Rhonda Curren Ricky Dillard Loren Dohm Gary Foster Cindy Francis Kathy Gibson Kozetta Grecnmyer Allen Ketter Lddie Kimbrell Carl Kiikham Dorothy Kitchens Tim Lambert Sherry McConnell Danny McCraw Allen McDonald Billy Nance Jerry Neal Londa Pierson Ray Queen Randy Staton Ricky Remington Paul Rollings Jerry Stone Betty Wilson Jeff Wilson Karen Wood 18 SOPHOMORES Sophomores OFFICERS AND SPONSORS Sophomore Class of ‘68 ‘69 Standmg-Mr. Richard Northington, Spun.; Rebecca Freeman, Reporter; Richard Brown. We then elected Teresa Barrington as Secretary and Treasurer and Rebecca Freeman as Reporter and Richard Brown as Sergeant at Arms. Gail Brown and Eddie Binyon represented their class as Annual Staff. We have good looking girls in our class as evidenced by Betty McClain who was our Football Queen Attendant for the Lion's Homecoming.
