The Senior class of 1963 had a wonderful school year. The year was started with Jackie Clanton as class president; DearyleNance, vice-president; and, Ronnie Brightwell, secretary. Judy Patterson and Richard Penn were again annual staffers with Judy as Editor of this year’s annual and Richard as Business Manager. Shirley Brooks was elected as football queen attendant, and also annual attendant. She rode on the second place float named Sweet Pea in the Homecoming parade. This year was an especially glorious year in the Awards Assembly for the senior class. George Daviswon the agriculture award; Judy Patterson won the bookkeeping, shorthand, scholarship, editor and best-all-around girl award; Syvilla Steele won the Typing II award; Barbara Hyde won the librarian award; and, Shirley Brooks and Richard Penn won the athletic awards. Judy Patterson was 1963 valedictorian and Glenda Brooks was Salutatorian. The Senior play was “Feudin in the Hills” and with the tireless help of Mrs. Bard was a lot of fun for all of the participants. The Senior class actively participated in sports this year. Richard Penn received the all-conference award in football and Darryl Nance served as football captain. Both girls’ and boys’ basketball teams were populated with Seniors. Shirley Brooks was captain and Glenda Brooks was co-captain of the girls’ team. Richard Penn was captain of the boys’ team. The seniors would like to thank Mrs. Bard and Mr. Dovell for their work with us this year.
