Jolene Jordan OFFICERS As we the Seniors of 1962 graduate we leave the most fun filled year of our lives!! !! ! We started the year by electing the following officers: President, Dick Southard; Vice-President, Larry Oglesby; Secretary, Donna Nixon; Treasurer, Julian Cole; Reporter. Mike Whinnery. Our float Queen For a Day won third place at the annual homecoming parade. Karen represented our class as Football Princess, and Leslie Sewell McCraw was our annual candidate. Three senior girls participated in basketball this year. Karen Brooks and Paula Shelton were elected captains, and Franksine Lee was elected co-captain. Karen was named to the All-Conference Basketball Team. Six boys went out for football this year. John Davis and Donald Simer were elected captains. John Davis, Donald Simer, and Jimmy Blagg were elected to the Ail-Conference Football Team. Donald Simer was elected Football King. Six boys went out for High School Basketball. Mike Whinnery and Gary McConnell were elected captains of the team. Gary McConnell made All-Conference in basketball. Eight Senior Girls took music this year, and five were in the ensemble. Linda Bowser and Marie Crowley were members of the High School Sextette, and Mary Williams and Paula Shelton were in the quartette. Linda Bowser was accompanist for the High School music class, and was elected Miss Music for 1961 and 1962. Lynn Foster was elected Mr. Music. We had six officers in F. H. A. They were Paula Shelton, Mary Williams, Linda Bowser, Marie Crowley, Karen Brooks, and Linda York. Two boys were F. F. A. Officers, Jimmy Blagg and Lynn Foster. Several of our boys received F. F. A. awards at the Awards Assembly. Our class personalities were as follows: Most beautiful and handsome--Linda York and Jimmy Blagg Cutest--Phylis Saylors and Dick Southard Most popular--Marie Crowley and Larry Oglesby Most Athletic--Karen Brooks and John Davis Most congenial--Paula Shelton and Mike Whinnery Most industrious--Fern Hyde and Gary McConnell The Seniors walked away with most of the awards this year at the Awards Assembly. Dick Southard received the Agriculture and All-Around Boy Awards. Paula Shelton received Home Economics, Shorthand, Annual, All-Around Girl, Salutatorian, and Scholarship Awards. Linda Miller York also received the Home Economics Award. Gary McConnell received the English and Valedictorian Awards. Barbara Swanson received Typing I and Bookkeeping, and Fern Hyde received the Typing II awards. Linda Bowser, distinguished pianist and music student, received the Music Award. Julian Cole received the National Math award and Larry Oglesby received the service award. This year for the first time a special award was given for outstanding achievement in the field of meanness. Mary Williams and Linda Bowser received this award. At this time we would like to thank Mrs. Jordan for being the perfect sponsor a class could ever ask for. She has faithfully supported us in every activity we took part in during the last two years. She has been a good friend to each of us as well as a good sponsor. We know that none of us will ever forget that night on our Senior Trip when we all had a new experience with vaseline and shaving cream. We would also like to thank Mr. Wheeler for his help and support this year.
