Treasurer, Judy Swanson, President; George Vilson, Reporter. We, the Senior Class of 1958, can truly say that we have enjoyed our last year in High School immensly. We have formed many lasting friendships which will ever be ours to cherish in years to come. At the beginning of the year, we elected t;hese officers: Judy Swanson, President; Don McCraw, Vice-president; Ellen Williams, Sectetary; Frank Periman, Treasurer; George Wilson, Reporter; and Freddie Rich, Sergeant at Arms. Of the Seven boys who went out for football, seven made the first string. Also, Tommy Morton made all-district half-back and Monty Brooks was all-district quarter-back. Our boys were also active in Shop and F.F.A. Two Senior girls were cheerleaders: Judy Swanson and Rosemary Oglesby. Four girls went out for basketba I hand-two made the mein string. Anna Rose Soward, a Senior, was crowned by Don McCraw as Football Queen of 1958 during half time of the Blanchard-Maud game. Andra Terrell will appear in these pages as Annual Queen of 1958. Judy Van Wie was Alumni Queen. Awards were given to Ellen Williams, Valedictorian, English, Biology, Typing, Scholarship, Library, and Mathematics; Andra Terrell, Salutatorian, Music, All-around girl. Mathematics, Typing, and Speech; Judy Swanson, Commerce; Tommy Morton, Boy athlete; and Charles Lowry, Service and De Kalb. Anna Rose Soward, Andra Terrell, Ellen Williams, and Judy Swanson were on the Honor Roll. On May 16, the Seniors were guests of honor at a Pow-Wow theme Junior-Senior Banquet. To climax the years activities, the Seniors made their trip by chartered bus to Rock-away Beach Missouri. We, the Junior Class of 1958 can rightfully say that this has been a wonderful year, filled wi th fun. We started the year by electing the following class officers; Joan Davis, President; Bronnelle Garland, Vice President; Louise Jarman, Secretary-Treasurer; Connie Coggins, Reporter; and Patti Wynn, Sergeant at Arms. We had lovely Queen Candidates this year. Connie Coggins represented us in Football and Alma Jo Hill as candidate for Annual Queen. Myrna Miller and Juanvil Patterson were cheerleaders in our Pep Club and Joan Davis was President. Marian Erwin was Vice President and Carol Golden, Sergeant at Arms. Joan Davis received the Home Economics Award at the Awards Assembly on May 21, while Marian Erwin took the Girl Athlete Award, Carol Golden, the History and Scholarship awards, and Jerry Mayfield, the F.F.A. and all-around boy awards. Joan Davis was Editor of the LION this year, and Carol Golden served on the Staff as Business Manager. Our only regret is that Mr. Bell is leaving us this year, but we would like to extend our thanks to him for being such a wonderful sponsor as well as a very dear friend. We, the Sophomore Class of 1958, have thoroughly enjoyed this, our second year in high school. At the first of the year the class elected officers as follows: John Pettigrew, President; Connell McCraw, Vice-president; Roy Matheny, Secretary-Treasurer; Jay McGrew, Reporter; and Joy Foster, Sergeant at Arms. We were well represented in all sports as well as in the Lionette Pep Club where Carol Wilson served as Secretary-Treasurer. Joy Foster, our football queen candidate looked very beautiful at the coronation ceremonies. Carol Wilson was F.F.A. Queen again this year and Trula Wheless was our candidate for Annual Queen. Our boys worked hard on their Shop and F.F.A. projects this year. Four of our boys won first at the Central State Dairy Judging Contest this year. They are Kenneth Huffman, Steve Schwilling, Phillip Savage, and Dan B. Swanson. Three of our classmates were members of the Honor Society. They and Joe Lowry, Trula Wheless and Nina Dilbeck. The Freshman Class of 1957 and 1958 have enjoyed the first year of high school and are looking forward to the next three years. The Junior High Football team was almost entirely composed of Freshman boys. We were well represented in basketball and one of our boys, Danny Clanton, made the high school team. Seven members of the Freshman class were also members of the Honor Society. Carolyn Mayfield received the Scholarship award. We were represented on the Annual Staff by Brenda Ferguson and Nancy Periman. Our only regret was that Sam Davis left us before the school year was over. We hope he will be back next year. Sam was outstanding in F.F.A. Paul Morton was also an outstanding F.F.A. student.
