SENIOR CLASS We, the members of the Senior Class of 1957, can truly say that we have enjoyed our last year in Blanchard High School more than words alone can express. We shall never have any occasion to forget the many friendships we have formed or fail to cherish the many pleasant memories that are forever ours. At the beginning of this school year, the Senior Class elected these officers: Mike Gammill, President; Dean Thompson, Vice President; Mary Sue Swanson, Secretary-Treasurer; and Barbara Sewell, Reporter. Again we asked Mr. Michael M. Dwyer to be our sponsor and can say that he has guided and led us through a very successful year. Of the nine boys who went out for football, nine made the first string. Three boys also held positions on the basketball team of Blanchard High. Senior boys have too, been active in Shop and F.F.A. Cheering the boys on to victory in the Lionette Pep Club were nine girls from the Senior Class and two cheerleaders; Patsy Binyon and Jannette Byers. The Seniors of 1957 can also boast the majority of the Lionette officers as named: President, Barbara Sewell; Vice President, Wanda Sue Saylors; Secretary-Treasurer, Mary Sue Swanson; and Reporter, Martha Crowley. Pat Young and Rita Winnard scored winning points for the girls’ basketball team this year. Proud are the Seniors to say that both in their Freshman and Senior years they have won the Football Queen Contests. Our lovely queen, Mary Sue Swanson, was crowned by David Pickard between halves of the Blanchard Capitol Hill B Game. And that isn't all! Carol Miller, whose charm will grace these pages as Annual Queen, also belongs to the Seniors. There is more too! Lucille Andrews was given the honor of presiding as queen over the Alumni Banquet. Sharon Ferguson proved a worthy competitor as candidate for F.F.A. Sweetheart. Awards were given to June Lewis, All-around girl; Ron Brooks, Boy athlete; Sharon Ferguson, Commerce; Rita Mae Winnard, Salutatorian and English; Martha E. Crowley, Shorthand; Dean Thompson, Valedictorian, Geometry, Agriculture, All-Around Boy, Scholarship, for outstanding work in these fields of study. June Lewis, Mary Sue Swanson, David Pickard, Dean Thompson, Pat Young, Rita Winnard, and Martha Crowley were seven of fifteen Honor Roll students of Blanchard School. continued on last page WANDA SUE SAYLORS TERRY MATHENY BARBARA SEWELL CAROL MILLER GENEVA WHELESS RAYMOND WADE RITA WINNARD JIMMY WIGLEY DEAN THOMPSON JUNE LEWIS DAVID PICKARD MARY SUE SWANSON MARTHA CROWLEY MIKE GAMMILL JIMMY STACY LU NELL TANKERSLEY JERRY SITTON SHIRLEY PUCKETT JANNETTE BYERS CURTIS LEDFORD SHARON HATTER DONALD NIXON VICTOR SAVAGE JENNIFER PETTIGREW FRANK COSHOW SHARON FERGUSON PAT YOUNG RUSSELL TAYLOR BETTY HAWKINS ROWLAND WINFORD WHITE LUCILLE ANDREWS JUNIORS CLASS OFFICERS Tommy Morton, President; Omer Can, Vice President; George Wilson, Secretary; Alice Rolen, Treasurer; Donald McCraw. JUNIOR CLASS The Junior Class of 1957 started their year off by electing the following class officers: Tommy Morton, President; Omer Catt, Vice President; George Wilson, Secretary; Alice Rolen, Treasurer; Donald McCraw, Reporter; and Calvin Smith, Sergeant-at-Arms. Although our class did not rank high in the queen races we feel that we have had a fairly successful year. Tommy Morton, with his Angus Steer, placed first in his class at this years County Fair. He also placed seventh in his class in the State Fair. Alice Rolen was candidate for both F.F.A. Sweetheart and Football Queen, Ellen Williams was candidate for Annual Queen. La Rue Stewart and Alice Rolen were two of the four cheerleaders of the Blanchard Lionette Pep Club. We also had seven girls of our class participating in the Pep Club. We were proud to yell for our football team, knowing seven boys were from our class. We also had several boys that participated in basketball. We are proud of the girls in basketball also. Two, Alice Rolen and Judy Swanson, succeeded in making the main string. Award students were: Charles Lowery, Service Award; Ellen Williams, American History and Honor Roll; Anna Rose Soward, Home Economics Award and Honor Roll; and Audra Sue Terrell, Honor Roll. Our class presented our Junior Play, COME OUT OF THE CLOSET, and ended the year's activities with a Mayday theme Junior and Senior Banquet. There was a mixed chorus chosen by Mrs. Starry to sing at Baccalaureate and Commencement. Three people were chosen for this f om our class. They were: Tommy Morton, Alice Rolen, and Andra Sue Terrell to play for the group. The Junior Class of 1957 would like to thank our sponsor, Mr. Terrell, for his excellent leadership. We began by electing the following officers: President, Roy Brooks; Vice President, Byron Haygood; Secretary-Treasurer, Kenneth Wilson; Reporter, Lloyd Brightwell; Sergeant-at-Arms, Carolyn Bell; and Sponsor, Mr. Inkster. We had three people on the honor roll, Louise Jarman, Sue Brightwell and Jerry Mayfield. We were well represented in all sports, and for the first time a sophomore won the athletic award. Carolyn Bell was selected as girl athlete of the year. We were represented on the annual staff by Joan Davis and Mac Francis. Louise Jarman was F.F.A. Sweetheart candidate with Marion Erwin representing us as Football Queen candidate and Connie Coggins as Annual Queen candidate. So long, Mr. Inkster, you've been a wonderful sponsor. We, the Freshman class of 1957, have enjoyed our first year of high school and are looking forward to our next three years. At the first of the year the class elected officers. We elected: Jacky Wigley, President; John Pettigrew, Vice President; David Richey, Secretary; Connell McCraw, Reporter; and Charles Foster, Sergeant-at-Arms. The Junior High football team was almost entirely composed of Freshman boys and three Freshman boys earned positions on the high school team. Both girls and boys of the Freshman class were active in basketball as well as baseball and softball. Our girls were active in Junior High and High School Pep Club. Carole Wilson, our football queen candidate, was escorted by Joe Lowry at the coronation of the queen in half time ceremonies at the Capitol Hill B Blanchard game. Our F.F.A. Sweetheart, Carole Wilson, attended the F.F.A. Banquet and was presented as the official F.F.A. Sweetheart for 1957. We are proud of our agriculture and shop boys who have worked diligently all year on their various projects. Two of our classmates were on the honor society. They were Carole Golden and Joe Lowry. Carole Golden received a scholarship award. Joe Lowry received the Science Award at the awards assembly. To crown our exciting Freshman year we came in second, short of first by only one vote, on the annual queen race to almost snatch victory for our candidate, Teresa Clouse. We want to say thank you to our sponsor, Mrs Ensminger, who has led us safely through our first year of high school. John B. Agriculture Shop MR. NOWLIN Advisor F.F.A. During the beginning of the 1956-57 school year, the F.F.A. moved into the new Agriculture Building. Their move was followed shortly by an open house attended by the public and county members. At the open house gathering Mr. Bill Van Wie was initiated as Honorary Chapter Farmer. At the annual Parent and Son Banquet Mrs. Pearl Howell was initiated as an Honorary Member. After losing only four Seniors, the F.F.A. gained thirteen Freshmen which brought the total membership of the F.F.A. Chapter up to thirty-eight. These members purchased and paid for new equipment, put to good use in building the various implements necessary to the Chapter. That isn’t all. The F.F.A. sponsored many events such as the Donkey ball game; the Oklahoma Leopards ball game; the Sweetheart race, during which the Freshman candidate, Carol Wilson, began her reign as the new F.F.A. Sweetheart; and a weekend trip on May fourth and fifth to the Wichita Mts. near Lawton. The fall showings were very successful also. At the County Fall Show, not one entry placed over the Blanchard Steer division and many ribbons returned to Blanchard after the local Spring Show and the Oklahoma City Stock Show. To climax the F.F.A. year the Chapter purchased a 1957 Chevrolet pickup. FOOTBALL Ten games played; four won and six lost. That was the record turned in by the Blanchard High School football team of 1956-57. The team won games from Purnell, Alex, Chickasha, Lincoln, Te-cumseh - and lost to Yukon, Rush Springs, Tuttle, Capital Hill ”B, Cyril, and Minco. The football season was climaxed October 26 with the crowning of the football queen during gala halftime ceremonies between the Blanchard and Capitol Hill ”B game played here.
