The recessional has passed! The last petal has dropped from the sunflower! It has been a wonderful year! Our red-haired president, Harold Pool, led us ably. He was ever ready in class activities, starred in the senior play, and helped to manage the football team. Our beautiful little Secretary-Treasurer, Pat French, kept our records and our money for three years, won Superior rating in song at district meets, and was cheered to the echo when she was awarded the All-Round Girl and Speech Awards. Pat has served on the Annual staff six years, and was F.F.A. Sweetheart in 1955 and Pep Club President in 1956. Harrylou Daniel, Valedictorian, was invaluable as an accompanist of glee clubs, received scholarship honors for four years, and received during her school career, two music awards and the Service Award, Commerce Award and Homemaking Award in 1956. Harrylou was cheerleader on the Pep Squad for three years, and served on the Annual Staff in 1Q56. Elected to represent the Class of 1956 at the annual Blanchard Alumni Banquet, Kay Ewing was first pupil in Blanchard High to achieve this honor. Kay was our pride and joy on the basketball court and received the Girls' Athletic Award in 1956. Tall, graceful Jo Ellen Rolen was our class Salutatorian. As guard on the basketball team she starred efficiently. We shall always remember: friendly, soft-voiced Patricia Coshow and her picturesque performance on the basketball court; starry-eyed Bonnie Nixon, who gave us a thrill by marrying the handsome son of our Principal; vivacious Dretha Harmon, with her dark eyes full of laughter; lovely, golden-haired Jeanette Crowder, our city girl; and demure Fern Shaw, our best shot, who won many water-gun-battles with our driver on that glorious senior trip. Climaxing a successful year as leader in athletics and our general class inspiration, Eugene Burns was awarded the Boys' Athletic Award at our senior assembly. Lloyd Haygood, Wayne Chapman, and Robert Rich, our Class Romeos, distinguished themselves in PAT COSHOW FERN SHAW JOELLEN ROLEN KAY EWING PAT FRENCH EUGENE BURNS HARRYLOU DANIEL WAYNE CHAPMAN DREATHA HARMON HAROLD POOL BONNIE TERRELL LLOYD HAYGOOD JEANNETTE CROWDER ROBERT RICH ROSETTA POOL FRANK DARRINGTON many ways. Lloyd received the Shop Award in 1956, while Wayne ran him a close second. Both were important members of the football squad. Fastest man on the football field was Robert Rich, who fell from nowhere one night to up our score to victory. For the first time in several years Blanchard High has boasted of Boys' Glee Club. This group has delighted us with its harmony, and chief among these harmonizers was Baily Darring-ton, who has the distinction of being the first colored graduate of Blanchard High. Rosetta Pool, class actress since her first appearance as the skunk in her primary year, did much to make our class a famous one. She took part in all musical events and all dramatic events with distinction. Number one in our class roll call for the last four years has been pleasant, companionable Charles Brightwell. Reversing that roll call procedure, we now close, sign, and seal the record of our class with his name. Bye, Mrs. Fields! you've been a wonderful sponsor. Cheerio! JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS: BARBARA SEWELL, Sergeant-at-Arms; PAT YOUNG, Reporter; MARTHA CROWLEY, Treasurer; MARY SWANSON. Secretary; TERRY MATHENY, President; DEAN THOMPSON, Vice President. Perhaps the busiest year of a student's high school life, the junior year, began with the election of officers. Our elected officers were Terry Matheny, President; Dean Thompson, Vice President; Mary Sue Swanson, Secretary; Martha Crowley, Treasurer; Pat Young, Reporter; Barbara Sewell, Sergeant-at-Arms and Mr. Dwyer, Sponsor. Our class was well represented in all activities of the school. Ten junior boys were on the football team, with eight on the main string and Ron Brooks as a co-captain; three girls and five boys played basketball; twelve junior girls cheered the football team on, with Jannette Byers and Pat Binyon as two of the leaders of the Lionette Pep Club. One of the biggest disappointments of the year was losing the football queen race to the sophomore class by the sum of $1.17 even though we had collected over two-hundred dollars. Our candidate for queen, Shirley Puckett, looked just as lovely in the ceremonies as she would have had she been crowned queen, instead of acting as an attendant at the crowning ceremony. Other honors that came to members of our class were: Wanda Sue Saylors, runner-up for F.F.A. Sweetheart; Martha Crowley, candidate for Annual Queen; Mary Sue Swanson, Award for Creative Writing; Pat Young, Scholarship Award, and Mike Gammill, All-round Boy and History Awards. Of the thirteen members on the high school honor society, six of them, Martha Crowley, Dean Thompson, David Pickard, Pat Young, Rita Winnard, and Sharon Ferguson, were Juniors. Carol Miller and Pat Binyon were members of the Girls’ trio that won Superior at both the district and state music contests, and the boys of our class made up all but two members of the Boys' Glee Club. Under the able direction of our sponsor, Mr. Dwyer, we presented the annual junior play, Finders Creepers. On Friday night, May 18, -the school faculty, school board members, and seniors were our guests at the annual Junior-Senior Banquet. The Oklahoma-Western theme was carried out through the use of cowboy boot favors, and other cowboy decorations, while an oil well gushed under the stars overhead. While we look back over a busy and happy junior year we would not forget to thank Mr. Dwyer who has led us through conflict and harmony to the completion of our most successful year. We have had a thrilling and adventurous year. Our class officers were; President, Tommy Morten; Vice President, Jack Love; Secretary and Treasurer, Anna Rose Soward; Reporter, Donald McCraw, and Sergeant-at-Arms, Alice Rolen. Our first claim to glory was the winning of the Football Queen Race. Our queen, LaRue Stewart, was crowned at half-time ceremonies of the Minco-Blanchard game. Alice Rolen brought additional honor to our class by winning the Annual Queen Race. She was awarded a gift at the Awards Assembly in May. Not so glamorous but just as worthy of mention in our accounts of glory, Monty Brooks received an All-Round Cowboy Trophy at the McClain County Rodeo; Tom Morten was awarded a Showmanship trophy for his Champion Steer. To prove that we have been a well-rounded class, nine of our boys participated in football; more than half of our pupils took music, and with the other high school students received honors at the District and State Music Contests; five girls played basketball and Alice Rolen was on the first team; our boys played basketball too!; and our nine Sophomore F. F. A. boys received several honors in that department. We wish to express our gratitude to Mr. Nowlin, our sponsor, for all the help in every activity of our class. He has been a wonderful sponsor. Our elected officers were; President, Roy Brooks; Vice President, Joe Schwilling; Secretary-Treasurer, Cassie Coggins; Reporter, Lloyd Brightwell, and Sponsor, Mrs. Ensminger. Two students of the Freshman classon the County Junior Red Cross Council were: Joe Schwilling and Juanvil Patterson. Our queen candidates were; Football Queen, Cassie Coggins, and Annual Queen, Myrna Miller. In athletics we worked hard and played just as hard. Our girls' basketball team won the County Championship. For the first time in our school history, we had a Junior High football team. We played three games, winning one, tying one, and losing one. Our Junior High Girls' Glee Club received an excellent rating at Weatherford and the Junior High trio, made up entirely of Freshman girls, rated a Superior at Weatherford and also at Stillwater. To finish our story of glory, Louise Jarman and Jerry Mayfield made the Honor Roll; To add to that Louise Jarman received the Scholarship Award and Jerry Mayfield the Science Award in our Awards Assembly on May 22. We wish to say thank you to Mrs. Ensminger for her able guidance through this our first year in high school.
