I am sure you will find that this year's book compares favorably with the fine trend of Lion Yearbooks in the past. All of us have formed many lasting friendships in those walls which we will certainly cherish in the years to come. At the beginning of the school term, we elected these officers: Haskell I-Iuffhines, president, Wendell Young, vice-president, Jack Brooks, secretary: Devonne Cooper, treasurer, Jack Jarman, reporter. Of the nine boys who went out for football, nine made the first string. Five of our boys were on the basketball team, and several were active in boxing and track. Senior boys have always starred in F.F. A. and shop activities. Girls of our class have not sat idly by during our high school years. They have been very active in sports and in music. This year, five girls participated in basketball with three making the team, and several girls were in softball activities. Eight girls were members of the Lionette Pep Club. Nine of the senior girls sang in the Glee Club, assisting it in making superior ratings at both district and state contests. Seniors have been leaders in library and Junior Red Cross work, and espec- ially outstanding in Speech League activities. Two of our number have been Annual staff members for four years. Seniors have ranked high in scholarship, too, this year the count in the Honor Society was five. Our royalty this year included Devonne Cooper, nominee for football queen and Letha Lewis, who won the title of Annual Queen over five other candidates. Our goal in all money-making projects was making money for our Senior trip. Mr. Terrell, our sponsor, was very helpful and considerate to us, and we appreciate his able assistance very much. We went by chartered bus to a resort at Noel, Missouri. The three days we spent there were packed full of swim- ming, boating, horseback' riding, bowling, non-sleep parties, and--uh--many other things. We sincerely hope that the classes below us enjoy their high school days as much as we have enjoyed ours. Q'..f - r ' figlp' ' - '.:'1'77: .rg , u WN' . ' R A A 4 h ,e. We began the year by electing Reford Bassett, President, Kay Ewing, Vice President: Pat French, secretary: Harrylou Daniel, Treasurer, Patsy Ruth Freeman, Reporter, Don Cooper, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Miss Bayless as our class Sponsor. Our class was represented in football by five boys. Also participating in basketball were five girls and three boys. Two of our boys, Lloyd Haygood and Bob Rich, trained for boxing, but only one went out for track. Five Junior girls actively participated in softball, while Johnnie Bowser was manager. Eleven Junior girls cheered the football team on, with Harrylou Daniel as one of the leaders of the Lionette Pep Club. Helping take care of the business problems of the pep squad were: Pat French, Vice President, Jo Ellen Rolen, Secretary: Kay Ewing, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Johnnie Bowser, Program Captain. At the Purcell Stock Show Lloyd Haygood won second place with his lamb and Charles Brightwell placed second with his barrow. As you tum through the pages ef this book you will see the picture of Patsy Ruth Freeman, our lovely Football Queen. We feel very honored in saying that the Juniors came in first. Also you will see pictures of Pat French, FFA Sweetheart, and Patsy Ann Freeman, Annual Queen Candidate from the Junior Class. At the Annual Sweetheart Dance, Harrylou Daniel and Eugene Bums were candidates for the Junior King and Qreen of Hearts, In the music activities the Junior Class was well represented. Eleven girls were enrolled with Harrylou Daniel as-accompanist and President of the Girls' Glee Club. Johnnie Bowser and Pat French were members of the sextet and Bonnie Nixon and Harrylou Daniel took part in the triple trio. The Junior Class was very proud of Pat French, who won a Superior rating at state contest. On May 13, 1955, the Juniors honored the Senior Class with a Hawaiian Cruise Banquet. Two plays were presented by the members of the Junior Class. He's Having A Baby' and 'Once in a Blue Moon' were the one-act plays that were given by our class. Harrylou Daniel was on the honor roll and was given the music award. She was also awarded with a scholarship. -.foil H-nv Q.. ,.,,. ss. 5,4 mv. pgs, ,x 0 0-9 Wilt! y -fr --gn-A ...QQ- I 1 x 'Hunt 1 . maj xHNx 1A th. ,xx ' .U M Q x 'un' ' 1 l X X. 1 1 . fun.. - xx X A 7 xuxxxrf .un Q., W- 9 ,.,. wi L -1 ku xhc cud, QQ if V L i Rui! He was ably assisted by Terry Matheny, vice presidents June Lewis secretaryg and Mike Gammill, reporter. Mr. Hutchinson was our sponsor. The sophomores are very proud that Iannette Byers was nmner-up in the con test for FFA sweetheart. She was given a beautiful compact by members of the FFA. The class took equal pride in seeing June Lewis escorted by Frank Coshow in the beautiful ceremony of coronation between halves of the Blanchard-Minco game. Our demure Sharon Ferguson was candidate for Annual Queen, and Bar- bara Sewell and Ron Brooks looked charming as escorts to the King and Queen of Hearts. Next year the success of the football team will depend, to a large extent, on eleven sophomore boys, who made a good showing in their second year of football. We were extremely proud of the three boys who made the first team: Ron Brooks, Gorden Rolen, and Frank Coshow. There were 10 sophomore girls in the Pep Club, who feel they had a lot to do with the success of the club. We feel that the sophomore class was well represented on the girls' basket- ball team. There were four girls in the class who eamed suits. Last, but not least, we were represented in the Girls' Glee Club with eight sophomore girls. They are very proud of the Superior rating awarded to them at the state contest at Norman. The class as a whole has enjoyed their second year of high school and is looking forward to their coming year. A n ', N 2 1DxX ff, if fl .SSI FRESHMEN 111:11 DMI n. I !, 1. Early in September, we elected the following officers: President, Charlene Wilmethg Vice President, La Rue Stewart, Secretary-Treasurer, Donald MeCrawg Reporter, Becky Clanton, and Sponsor, Mr. Bruce DoRemus. We are very proud of our queen candidates this year. La Rue Stewart was our candidate for football queen: Judy Van Wie was candidate for Annual Queeng and Rosemary Oglesby and Tommy Menon were our King and Queen of Hearts candidates. Both the boys and girls were well represented in athletics. Several of the boys participated in football and we are sure that you will be seeing more action from them in future years. The Junior High basketball teams were composed almost entirely of Freshmen and they had a highly successful season, winning by far the majority of their games. We were also well represented in softball. Seven of our girls were members of the Girls' Glee Club and four of them were in the Triple Trio. We are very proud of Andra Sue Terrell and Ellen Williams for making the Honor Society. K A ., , ,xwgmlfl , wgrg, .E , LJ..-f 5,352 N .
