7reskman Activities Early in September, 1953, the largest class of Blanchard High School, the Freshmen, forty two in number, elected the following officers: President, Gorden Rolen; Vice President, Ron Brooks; Secretary, Wanda Sue Saylors; and Reporter, Shirley Puckett. We asked Miss Kathryn Bayless to be our sponsor, and she guided us through a very successful! year. Twelve freshmen boys became acquainted with football and learned the sport so well that you'll be hearing from them during the remainder of their high school years. This freshman class broke all precedents by defeating the other high school classes in the race for Football Queen. Jannette Byers was crowned in a beautiful ceremony between halves of the Minco game. And that wasn't all! Mary Sue Swanson, whose beauty will grace these pages as annual Queen, also belongs to our class. As members of the Junior High Basketball Teams both boys and girls furnished the important members of the main string. We also furnished three girls and four boys for the Senior High Basketball Team. The freshman class furnished 16 members for the Mixed Chorus, which distinguished itself by rating Superior in the State Meet. There were also thirteen freshmen girls who were in the Girls' Glee Club which also won Superior at the State Meet. Pat Binyon, in state competion, ranked excellent in soprano solo. Do you not think the Class of 1959 has made a good start?
