Soph o. more Activities The Sophomore class of '53-'54 has found its second year of high school very successful. At the first class meeting thirty-three members elected class officers as follows: Eugene Burns. President; O.T. Brooks, Vice President; Pat French, Secretary and Treasurer; Jo Ellen Rolen, Reporter; Russell Price, Sergeant-at-arms; and Mr. Alvin Nowlin, Sponsor. December found the Sophomores preparing a gay Christmas party. Each person contributed a gift to be sent to the Red Cross. From the Sophomore Class three girls and nine boys were members of the Mixed Chorus; nine girls participated in Glee Club. Harrylou Daniel was accompanist for Mixed Chorus, Glee Club, and grade school musical activities. Five boys went out for football, and we are very proud to say one of our Sophomore boys. Reford Bassett, played on the main team. Fourteen sophomore girls cheered in the Pep Club. Five boys went out for basketball, and two of them, Eugene Burns and Bobby Haynes, played on the A string. Four of our girls, Johnnie Bowser, Pat Coshow, Kay Ewing, and Jo Ellen Rolen played important positions on our basketball team. Pat French was chosen Football Queen Attendant. The night of the coronation, she was there, in her beautiful red dress, with her escort. Reford Bassett. As Annual Queen Attendant, we chose lovely Jo Ellen Rolen, whose picture you will see as you turn through the pages of this book. Pat Coshow, a very attractive sophomore, and Charles Brightwell, a handsome young man, were attendants to the King and Queen of Hearts. The Junior Red Cross representatives of the Sophomore Class were Pat French and Reford Bassett. Johnnie Lee Bowser and Harrylou Daniel, of whom we are justly proud, made the honor roll this year. The Annual Staff had the services of Pat French and Johnnie Bowser. At the Annual Award assembly. May 17 the following members of our class received honors; Johnnie Bowser received the Home Economics Award. Phyllis McBride received the scholarship Award.
