Few of you have even suspected that I Harlene Huffman was presented with a talent with which I can read the future. As I look into this crystal ball I see a beautiful night club, located on the east side of Norman. On the wall, I see a most beautiful painting of a ship. The Charming hostess is none other than Miss Dovie Price. I knew she'd make a hit with the sailors someday. Her night club is called The Sailors’ Paradise.,l There at one of the tables, I see Adm. George Curren and his lovely wife, Margie. As I rub my hands together, close my eyes, and repeat the magic words ADDA CADABRA! There comes into the object before me a huge crowd of people. It's the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville Tennessee. There before all those people is Paul Snow. Paul is telling them about his latest record, Drinkln’ Beer and Chasin' Pretty Women. ADDA CADABRA 1 ” Before me is a beautiful home on the outskirts of Del Rio, Texas. It's Jimmy Richey in a huge backyard, playing baseball with his two small sons. Out of the back door, comes his sweet little wife, the former Wanda Sue Saylors. From all indications, Jimmy has made his one goal as a Sports' Announcer for Radio Station KERF in Del Rio. ADDA CADABRA! It’s a beautiful ranch in the Rio Grande Valley. I see a nice looking family getting out of a new Cadillac convertible. It is Ruin Ann and Donald Brooks, with two small girls. The sign in front of the gate reads: Meadow Brook’s Dude Ranch. There is a rodeo ground at this far-away place. As I get a glimpse of the corrals, out of one of the shutes comes Doc Foster, the former bronc rider of old Blanchard High. Doc must be a retired rider, since he won the world Championship prize last year. ADDA CADABRA! Land Sakes! Look at the chickens! I see a huge chicken ranch in Northeastern Oklahoma. Oh, it's Mrs. La Dana Hawkins and her small brood of six boys. La Dana has made a good start on her goal for a dozen children. The Hawkins' Boys may take Oklahoma yet! ADDA CADABRA! Before my eyes is a huge building, a factory. There are two men coming out, and they are Jimmy Don Nichols, and Hubert Burns. The sign over the door of the building seems to say, Schlitz Beer Co., Jimmy Nichols, president; Hubert L. Burns, Vice President. I knew they would make good in some kind of a lazy business. They are talking to Joe Bowling, owner of the Gaiety-Plaza Theater in Reno, Nevada. It seems that he has the best floor shows in the whole United States. ADDA CADABRA! A horse race at the Kentucky Derby! There seems to be quite a bit of excitement as the fastest one draws to the finish line. That person getting off the horse seems familiar. Why, it's Boyd Morris! He has just won the Kentucky Derby! Someone steps up to greet him! Senator Crowder! Gene and Paula are on their vacation. Never had any idea that he would use his brains in politics, did you? As they're leaving, they seem to be discussing something for excitement. Paula suggests that they go downtown to see the newest release of Miss Jane Lowry's Life in a One-Horse Town. They are entering the theater when they meet the former Martha Thomson, now she is Mrs. Lonnie Hawkins. Martha's picture appears on the magazine covers quite often, and she and her husband own an interest in the Hawkins' textile Company, Inc. ADDA CADABRA! I see a plump little lady on a huge bus going to Miami Florida. She has a small boy at her side. Miss Barbara McDonald is owner of the Institute for underprivileged children in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Well, that Bus driver is a woman! Now that's a sight you don’t see often, especially on a long route such as the one from Seattle, Washington, to Miami Florida. It's Marjetta Sewell! Someday she'll probably make as great a name as her father; National Champion Truck Driver. Who is that sitting on the front seat? Jimmy Kidd! He seems to be a very refined person now, and quite well-known too. He established the first public library in Cole, Oklahoma. Jimmy and Marjetta are talking of her cousin, Eugene Huffhines. I see that Eugene is professor of Telegraphy at the Colorado State College. Zke Senior Will I, Gene Crowder, will my ability to write poetry to Jack Brooks. We chose for class officers the following: Dwain Brooks, President; Haskell Huffhines, Vice President; Lois Lowry, Secretary; Karen Burris, Treasurer; Letha Lewis, Reporter; Lowell B. Russell waj elected class sponsor. The majority of the junior boys participated in athletic activities: Football, Basketball, Track, and Tennis. They made a good showing on their various teams, and we are proud of them. We also had outstanding representation on the girls' basketball and soft-ball teams. By lifting their voices in song all year in the Mixed Chorus and Glee Club, many juniors contributed to the gaining of superior ratings in both of the State Choral Contests this spring. Our various queen candidates were: Letha Lewis for Football Queen, Wanda Boettler for Annual Queen, and Letha Lewis and Thomas Allen were our candidates for King and Queen of Hearts. We were very proud when the F. F. A. honored Carolyn Wilbanks as their Sweetheart. She received a beautiful jacket as her reward. In march, we presented our class play, Let Me Grow Up, which met with much success. On May 14, 1954, we honored the Seniors with a banquet in Moonlight and Roses” theme. It could be called a successful experiment, because, for the first time, it was held in the gymnasium. Everyone enjoyed the delicious food and received many compliments on the beautiful decorations. In the special awards division, the Juniors received the following honors: Jimmy Saylors, Industrial Arts Award; Carolyn Wilbanks, All-Around Girl Award; Dwain Brooks, All-Around Boy Award; Wynona MacMilltn, Scholarship and Algebra Awards; Joy Mac Starry, Scholarship, Algebra, Science. Service, and Creative Writing Awards. Dwain Brooks, Mary McCraw, Carolyn Wilbanks, Wynona MacMlllin, and Joy Mac Starry were members of the Honor Society. Thirteen Juniors were members of the Librarians’ Club. As this term of school draws to a close, we are looking ahead to an even more successful and enjoyable year next term. We asked Miss Kathryn Bayless to be our sponsor, and she guided us through a very successful! year. Twelve freshmen boys became acquainted with football and learned the sport so well that you'll be hearing from them during the remainder of their high school years. This freshman class broke all precedents by defeating the other high school classes in the race for Football Queen. Jannette Byers was crowned in a beautiful ceremony between halves of the Minco game. And that wasn't all! Mary Sue Swanson, whose beauty will grace these pages as annual Queen, also belongs to our class. As members of the Junior High Basketball Teams both boys and girls furnished the important members of the main string. We also furnished three girls and four boys for the Senior High Basketball Team. The freshman class furnished 16 members for the Mixed Chorus, which distinguished itself by rating Superior in the State Meet. There were also thirteen freshmen girls who were in the Girls' Glee Club which also won Superior at the State Meet. Pat Binyon, in state competion, ranked excellent in soprano solo. This just makes me shiver’. Before my eyes is a magnificent Reindeer ranch in Alaska. Who could own it? Dale White, of course and he does all his traveling in a new kind of plane, which of course is the most modern thing available for such a cool climate. ADDA CADABRA! I see a gray-haired old man playing with a small boy with dimples in his cheeks. The little Boy playing with his grandfather is Jim Wheeler, Jr. It looks like Teda Isbell got to be quite a wheel after all. ADDA CADABRA! Donna Harmon is sitting across the table from Naomi Bowling, the famous hair stylist for Metro-Goldwys Meyer. Donna is wearing an Airline hostess uniform for American Airlines! My, that charming hostess, Betty Bowling talks to the girls as if she owns the place. She is owner of the Chain of Restaurants called Betty's Pheasant in the Fur. ADDA CADABRA! A great museum catches my eye, especially is it accented to me by a. couple standing behind one of the doors. Oh, ho! Robert Green and Jeanette Crowder, doing just what they did ten years ago. Remember? They always hid behind the typing room door to smooch! As for myself, I see the image of a big goose! It has one wing big and strong the other weak and helpless, hanging limply. I tried to fly, but found my wings weren't mates. ” A LITHOGRAPHED — YEARBOOK DALLAS • TEXAS ....———■ -•
